In terms of capital flow, the deal will integrate some Mechanize employees into Google's model evaluation and development team while obtaining technology through licensing, motivated by the need to directly accelerate its AI coding capabilities to compete with Codex and Claude Code; resources are shifting from independent startup financing to the computational power and distribution channels of major companies.

Similar cases can be seen in Google's authorized buyback of Character.AI and the leadership of the new platform by the core team of Windsurf after their onboarding, as well as Microsoft's similar handling of Inflection; currently, Google is in an expansion phase to quickly fill its coding gaps through mixed transactions.

Essentially, this represents a technological substitution: independent coding agent capabilities are being internalized by major companies through talent and licensing, with the mechanism being that the mixed structure reduces regulatory resistance in an antitrust environment, allowing core evaluation and training data to flow more quickly to scalable models.
