Nous Research Launches Hermes Desktop Local Multi-Agent Desktop Application

Ollama officially announces support for Hermes Desktop, a cross-platform desktop application (macOS, Windows, Linux) developed by Nous Research, which integrates multiple agent engines, self-improvement skills, and messaging application connections.

Users can run it locally or in the cloud with the command ollama launch hermes-desktop ollama; Hermes comes with over 70 built-in skills that can automatically generate and continuously optimize a Python skill library based on natural language descriptions during actual use.

Hermes supports connections to multiple platforms including Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, Signal, and Email, achieving unified memory and operations across applications with a single agent, significantly enhancing the efficiency of localized AI agent workflows.

Nous Research has previously focused on the development of open-source large models and agent systems. Hermes Desktop continues its path of pushing cutting-edge multi-agent capabilities from the cloud to local deployment, having rapidly iterated self-improvement and tool usage capabilities in the open-source community through the Hermes series of models.

On the capital front, Nous Research leverages the Ollama ecosystem to quickly distribute desktop applications, transforming open-source technology into a broad user base and potential enterprise service opportunities. This move reduces user dependence on the cloud while accumulating personalized data barriers through local skill libraries, laying the foundation for future commercialization expansion.

Similar to how Open Interpreter and Auto-GPT evolved from command-line tools to desktop applications, Hermes Desktop is currently in an expansion phase transitioning from cloud agents to cross-platform localized intelligent assistants, solidifying its position in the open-source AI agent toolchain through Ollama integration.

Essentially, this represents a technological substitution and industrial chain restructuring: Hermes Desktop directly replaces traditional scripts and multi-application switching links through local multi-agent and self-learning skills, accelerating the concentration of capital and developer resources from closed cloud platforms to open-source localized tools, reshaping the deployment and data sovereignty structure of productivity tools for individuals and enterprises.
