LinkedIn has not transformed into a matchmaking product, but real identities, professional backgrounds, and shared connections are being used by some users as a high-credibility dating screening tool.

A survey by Zety of over 1,000 American professionals shows that 12% of respondents have developed romantic relationships on LinkedIn, and 22% have sent or responded to messages with romantic intentions.

The core of this behavior is not the platform's matching function, but the natural concentration of educational background, employers, positions, income trajectories, photos, and shared relationships in professional profiles; 48% of respondents believe LinkedIn profiles are more trustworthy than profiles on dating apps.

However, this usage remains a minority and presents strong boundary conflicts: 74% of respondents believe initiating romantic pursuits on LinkedIn crosses professional boundaries, and 65% think it could harm personal reputation.

On the content level, LinkedIn's recommendation system distributes content based on professional relevance, professional capabilities, and effective discussions; however, the narrative format of "personal stories—emotional resonance—comment interaction" is more likely to gain attention and interaction, gradually making workplace content more entertaining.

In terms of market mechanisms, users exchange their professional identities for job opportunities, sales, and networking, while the platform charges for recruitment, marketing, subscriptions, and sales tools; emotional gossip content does not generate core revenue but competes for attention and dilutes the trust cost of professional networks. LinkedIn's fiscal year revenue has exceeded $15 billion, with talent solutions revenue surpassing $7 billion, and its business essence remains B2B professional infrastructure.
