Early advocates often pushed for technical ideals, overlooking the high failure rates of most users in scenarios such as mnemonic backup, device loss, and inheritance arrangements. The current statement marks a public shift from "ideal standards" to the "layered reality of users".

On the capital path, funds are shifting from a singular hardware wallet narrative to exchange custody, multi-party computation, social recovery, and institutional-level solutions. The motivation is to reduce permanent asset loss due to operational errors while retaining autonomy options for high-capability users, avoiding deterring incremental users due to extreme self-custody requirements.

Similar cases can be seen in the early internet's ideal of "operating your own server", which ultimately evolved into layered cloud services; and in the Ethereum ecosystem's migration from fully self-managed private keys to account abstraction and social recovery. Currently, Bitcoin custody is transitioning from a singular dogma to a product matrix.

Essentially, this is a technological substitution. The mechanism is that users' actual execution capabilities become the filter; those who cannot complete basic operations are naturally diverted to custodial solutions, thereby forcing the market to provide tools that match capabilities, rather than continuing to filter users with ideal standards.
