Mridul Singhai Claims the Main Reason for Buying a Car is FSD

X Product Engineer Mridul Singhai stated that his primary reason for buying a car is FSD, and the secondary reason is that he works here and doesn't want to feel awkward without a car. He thanked Ashok Elluswamy. The post did not specify the model, price, or order time.

This statement was made in response to Elon Musk's "Yes". Musk agreed to an old judgment by Brett Winton. Winton wrote on March 25, 2024, that others might think Tesla wants to sell FSD, but the reality is that FSD will sell Tesla cars. On October 2, 2026, he retweeted this with the caption "This is happening." Musk replied in agreement on October 3.

Singhai's public profile is X Product Engineering. FSD is Tesla's supervised driving assistance software, and Ashok Elluswamy is responsible for the company's autonomous driving software. This reply breaks down the reasons for purchase into two layers: software functionality first, and employer-related social pressure second. It is a statement from an individual, not a delivery volume or option rate.

Winton's original post reversed the causality: the market easily sees FSD as an additional sale on the car, while he believes the car is a delivery vehicle for the software. Musk endorsed this direction with a single word. Singhai provides an employee-side sample, not dealer statistics. The secondary reason points to visible consumption in the X office, not loan rates or subsidies.

No new pricing, regulatory approvals, or fleet sizes appeared in this series of replies. Only three verifiable points exist: the 2024 judgment was reiterated by the original author, the company head agreed, and an X engineer stated that FSD was the primary reason for his car purchase and thanked the head of autonomous driving software.

This is not an order; it is a narrative of demand recounted by an insider. The buyer sample consists of employees who have joined and explained their car purchase using software functionality; the seller is Tesla, which treats FSD as a reason to sell cars, rather than as a standalone software product. The event is driven by public endorsement, and no funds changed hands in this post. The beneficiary is the sales narrative of "software driving hardware"; the pressure is on the pricing method that still treats the car as the main product and the driving assistance as an optional package. A single employee's statement cannot replace sales volume.
