Peter Diamandis, Executive Chairman of XPRIZE, stated that the next decade could be humanity's most productive and influential yet, not because problems are getting smaller, but because tools are becoming extremely powerful and can empower people everywhere. He cited the transformative effects of the Build with Gemini XPRIZE as just the beginning.

The prize totals $2 million and was launched jointly by XPRIZE and Google at Google I/O on May 19, requiring participants to create businesses with real users and real revenue using artificial intelligence within 90 days, covering five categories: education, entrepreneurship and employment, small business services, financial accessibility, and professional services. The evaluation focuses on business viability, native AI operations, and category impact, without considering pitch decks. The grand prize is $500,000, with no equity taken. Over 26,000 people have registered.

The winner will be decided at the Moonshots gathering in Los Angeles on September 25. Lucas Martinic's Polyfork won first place. Judges included Cathie Wood from ARK Invest, Palmer Luckey, founder of Anduril, Mark Pincus, founder of Zynga, and Logan Kilpatrick, responsible for Google AI Studio and the Gemini interface. There was also a higher-stakes optimistic sci-fi imaging competition. Diamandis described the "builder class" as those who are literate, can access the internet, and can use cutting-edge models, stating that developers are expected to grow from about 47 million to a billion by 2030.

The competition mandates the use of at least one Google Cloud product and requires businesses to be operated by intelligent agents. This prize competition shifts from laboratory metrics to validating revenue-generating companies in 90 days. XPRIZE is known for competitions like the Ansari XPRIZE for commercial space travel and carbon removal, and this time has lowered the barrier to entry for individuals and small teams.

In terms of market mechanisms, this is a combination of platform customer acquisition and prize incentives, rather than a price war on models. Buyers are Google Cloud seeking case studies and XPRIZE looking for narratives; sellers are individual developers who can create revenue-generating products within three months. Funds flow from the prize pool to winning projects, while traffic is directed from the competition to Gemini and cloud billing. Beneficiaries are builders who can demonstrate "real revenue," while traditional software companies that still rely on annual financing and team scheduling face pressure. The event does not change the cost of training large models but will increase the premium for those who can deliver using models.
