Arc Launches Nanopayments Starter for AI Agent Micro-Payments

Arc has released the Nanopayments Starter reference implementation, allowing developers to use the x402 protocol, Circle Gateway, and USDC on the Arc Testnet to enable automatic payment API calls for AI Agents (costing $0.001 per call).

This solution allows for batch settlement of thousands of payments without the need to pay on-chain gas fees for each transaction, significantly reducing the micro-payment costs for AI Agents.
Developers can directly clone the code to run the Seller App and Buyer Agent, observing the nano payment process in real-time.

Arc previously focused on blockchain payment infrastructure, and the Nanopayments Starter continues its path from traditional payments to adapting to the AI Agent economy, addressing the gas and settlement pain points of high-frequency micro-transactions through Circle USDC and the x402 protocol.

On the capital front, Arc is collaborating with Circle to mobilize USDC liquidity resources, aiming to build a dedicated payment layer for AI Agents, attracting developers to deploy Agents in scenarios like chat, tool invocation, and autonomous transactions, creating a closed loop of high-frequency small payments and expanding USDC usage.

This evolution is similar to the early development of Web2 API payments by Stripe and high-frequency payment attempts on Solana, with AI Agent payments currently in the early stage of transitioning from manual settlement to automated nano payment infrastructure.

Essentially, this is a restructuring of the industry chain: the AI Agent economy needs to decouple from the traditional blockchain gas model, with mechanisms for batch settlement and stablecoin gateways significantly reducing micro-payment friction, accelerating the concentration of capital and developer resources from isolated model calls to a self-paying Agent economic network, pushing AI from a tool layer to an autonomous economic entity.

For Agents to truly be autonomous, they must first have the ability to pay automatically.
If micro-payment costs are not resolved, AI Agents will always remain advanced tools.
Batch settlement is the infrastructure of the nano economy era.
