Binance announced that starting from September 29, 2026, it will gradually migrate non-stock crypto assets from user fund accounts to spot accounts, a process expected to last until January 2027, with specific batch dates to be announced later. After the migration, fund accounts will be renamed to stock accounts, which will only handle stock and stock options settlements.

From September 29, fund accounts will stop on-chain deposits. Stock accounts will only retain U.S. stocks, stock options, and six settlement assets: USD, USDC, USDT, USD1, U, BNB. Other tokens can only be deposited or withdrawn through spot accounts. After the renaming, users can still use these six assets to buy stocks.

A one-click migration feature will be added to fund accounts, allowing users to actively transfer unsupported coins to spot accounts. Assets that are not actively migrated will be automatically moved in batches by the system starting from January 2027, at a 1:1 transfer rate, with total asset balances remaining unchanged. Total assets in spot accounts will equal the original spot balance plus the original non-stock balance from fund accounts. Most users will not need to take action and will receive notifications when it is their turn to migrate.

Users must upgrade to the latest version of the app to use the one-click migration; older versions will have to wait for the system to process automatically. Historical transactions before and after migration will still retain the "fund account" label and will not be rewritten. The official statement describes this move as simplifying account structures, eliminating manual transfers between fund and spot accounts, and meeting the requirement for independent accounts for U.S. stock settlements.

The compliance and product teams are responsible for separating securities settlements from crypto wallets, while users still treat fund accounts as universal wallets. Funds will flow from the depositable fund accounts to the overall spot pool, with stock transactions accounted separately. The beneficiaries are the liquidity aggregation in spot trading and stock product accounting, while those under pressure are users who rely on fund accounts for direct on-chain deposits, have not upgraded their apps, or keep multiple tokens in that account for payments.

The migration does not change asset ownership but alters the entry point: on-chain deposits and withdrawals will shift to spot accounts, and fund accounts will become securities settlement boxes.
