Meta Advances Internal Prediction Market App Named Arena, Evaluating Collaboration with Polymarket and Kalshi

Meta is advancing an internal prediction market application named Arena and is reportedly evaluating the possibility of collaborating with Polymarket and Kalshi.

The application currently uses a points system instead of real money betting, targeting users aged 18 to 34, with an internal growth goal of at least 100 million monthly active "predictors."

In terms of market mechanism, buyers are platforms eager to monetize social time, while sellers face pressure from regulatory and gambling boundary disputes; the events are clearly driven, benefiting companies that can productize prediction trading, while traditional social content distribution models are under pressure.

Meta previously launched a similar project called Forecast but closed it in 2022. This time, it attempts to embed predictive behavior into a standalone product outside of Facebook and Messenger, then redirect traffic back to the main platform.

Meta's venture into prediction markets is not new; Forecast was launched during the pandemic but later closed, indicating its ongoing interest in turning user judgments into interactions, though it has struggled to scale the product into a business.

The choice of Arena and the use of points instead of real money suggests a capital path aimed at first validating participation frequency and retention before deciding whether to incorporate gambling attributes, monetization through ads, or transaction fees.

Historically, the success of Polymarket and Kalshi demonstrates that prediction markets are not purely financial products but attention products; what Meta truly desires is not the bets themselves, but to bind events, opinions, and social relationships into high-frequency behaviors.

Essentially, this represents a technological replacement: as social platforms begin to use prediction mechanisms instead of traditional information flows, users shift from "browsing content" to "betting on events," and the platform's core asset transitions from content distribution to behavior prediction.

When information flow reaches its limit, it becomes judgment flow.

First gamify, then financialize, is a common path for platforms.

Whoever turns opinions into actions will capture attention time.
