The author, Jeffrey Thomas, submitted under the name Jeff Synthesized, stating that the opponent is not technology but the fear of technology, and he framed it as E.T. for the AI era. The total prize pool for the event exceeded $3.5 million, opening on March 9 and closing on August 15, receiving over 2,500 entries, with 65 shortlisted and the top five screened in Los Angeles.
