Apple's Largest Adjustment in Mac Chip Strategy, Skipping M6 High-End to Directly Launch M7 AI Chip

Apple is making one of the largest adjustments in its Mac chip strategy in history, preparing to leap directly to a new generation of chips focused on artificial intelligence for its next top-tier processor.

The company is currently at the M5 series stage and plans to launch the entry-level Mac base version M6 processor as early as this year, but will unprecedentedly skip the high-end version of M6.

Apple plans to launch Pro and Max versions of the new generation M7 chip series in 2027, which will feature more powerful computing and graphics processing capabilities.

Apple's chip strategy has been iterating from the A series to the M series. This leapfrogging over the high-end M6 directly to the M7 AI chip continues its investment in AI priority. Historically, similar large-scale adjustments have often accompanied performance leaps.

On the capital front, the company is accelerating AI computing power integration, shifting resources towards self-developed chips and neural engines, and strategically enhancing the competitiveness of Mac in the AI PC race.

Similar to the launch of the M1 series, Apple is currently at a critical transition period for AI PCs, where self-developed chip leaders gain ecosystem pricing power.

Essentially, this is a technological replacement, with Apple skipping the transitional version to focus on AI-optimized chips. Capital is concentrating on hardware with neural processing capabilities, and pricing power is shifting from traditional CPUs to AI accelerators, benefiting Apple's ecosystem in the restructuring of the industry chain.
