Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev posted that thousands of children in Indiana became investors today: Altimeter and the Brad Gerstner Family Foundation each injected $250 into their Trump accounts.

Local and federal public statements are more complete: approximately 144,400 Indiana children born in 2023 and 2024, with family median incomes not exceeding $150,000, are eligible, covering about 99% of the state's zip codes; funds for those who have opened accounts will be automatically credited. The Trump account is available to U.S. citizens under 18, with those born between 2025 and 2028 also eligible for a $1,000 seed fund from the Treasury; funds can only be accessed upon turning 18, and withdrawals are taxed as income. Gerstner, who grew up in Indiana, founded the nonprofit organization Invest America to promote this account and serves as CEO of Altimeter, being referred to as one of the designers of the program.

Robinhood and Bank of New York Mellon are among those selected by the Treasury as brokers and custodians for the accounts, with Tenev previously stating this would place the company in the first investment accounts of millions. The Dell couple has pledged $250 to approximately 25 million children, totaling about $6.25 billion; Ray Dalio has made similar seed commitments in Connecticut; several employers have announced matching the federal $1,000 for eligible children of employees. Gerstner's commitment in Indiana was previously reported to be as high as $100 million, targeting children under five, with this batch aimed at those born in 2023 and 2024.

Tenev referred to the credited funds as "becoming investors," layering brokerage customer acquisition, charitable seeds, and federal account structures on the same day. The account was launched in July with the related tax reform bill, and family, friends, and employers can continue to contribute. Senators Todd Young and Gerstner co-authored an article stating that downloading the app, registering, and claiming the children's share is all that is needed.

In market mechanisms, this is a preemption of future brokerage relationships. Buyers are the brokers and asset managers managing the children's account fees and future rolling assets; sellers are the families yet to open accounts. Funds from charitable and fiscal seeds enter stock and fund holdings, which cannot be withdrawn freely for 18 years, creating a locked equity demand. Beneficiaries are custodians and brokerage license holders, while families' liquidity is pressured as they must wait until the child reaches adulthood to have withdrawal rights, with withdrawals subject to taxation.

On a supplementary level, it has not been disclosed whether the actual number of credited accounts has reached the full 144,400, nor the default investment portfolio composition. Personal health privacy and account investment rights are exercised by guardians, and children themselves cannot trade today.
