Bitwise crypto researcher Ishmael Asad tested the location-based game Touch Grass, reaching a refresh point at Times Square to receive 0.0275 shares of tokenized GameStop for free.

The app claims to be a tokenized stock version of Pokémon Go, built on the Robinhood Chain: open the map, walk to the nearest refresh point, click, and the fragments enter your wallet. The official documentation states that the drops are not points or images, but ERC-20 tokens tracking the underlying stock price on the chain, purchased in advance by the treasury and then distributed; if the treasury balance is insufficient, it will not refresh; on-chain settlement records have accumulated about 44,900 transactions, approximately 34,500 independent wallets, covering at least 8 stocks.

The refresh rules are tied to real stores. GameStop stores drop GME, Apple stores drop AAPL, Tesla stores and supercharging stations drop TSLA, Amazon lockers drop AMZN, and Google offices drop GOOGL. The documentation provides drop amounts per transaction, including about 0.11 or 0.0275 for GME, about 0.011 to 0.025 for AAPL, and about 0.013 to 0.03 for TSLA, with Nvidia marked as a legendary whole share, with only one public location on the map. Currently, about 830 refresh points are spread across approximately 158 cities, connecting about 42 tokenized stocks, and collection requires walking within about 30 to 40 meters, with wallet, location, device, and daily limits to prevent abuse.

These tokens come from the public chain mainnet launched by Robinhood on July 1, based on the Ethereum Layer 2 of Arbitrum Orbit, with chain ID 4663. The stock tokens are issued by a physical entity in Jersey, with a legal structure as tokenized debt securities, tracking stock prices and economic exposure, without voting rights, shareholder rights, or beneficial ownership of the underlying stock, aimed at qualified users in over 120 countries, and not open to U.S. persons. Within two weeks of launch, the real-world asset market cap on this chain rose from about $12.6 million to about $70 million, and the number of holders increased from about 65,000 to over 328,000; tokenized GameStop's daily trading volume once reached $26.6 million, Nvidia $14 million, and SpaceX $6.4 million.

Larger transactions on-chain are not from "walking to collect stocks." Stablecoins and meme coins still dominate, with traders pairing meme coins directly with tokenized Nvidia, Tesla, and GameStop, with about 17% of the circulating stock tokens entering such pools. AMC has requested to stop tokenized packaging, but Robinhood's legal response is that it will not stop. Touch Grass itself states that it is not related to brokers or brands, only dropping locations on an unlicensed infrastructure; about 37.5% of the protocol fees flow back to the treasury to buy the next round of collectible stock fragments.

The buy side consists of retail wallets willing to walk, and on-chain traders pricing stock tokens as meme coins; the sell side is the treasury releasing fragments based on spot purchases at geographic points. Funds flow into the treasury and market-making pools from game fees and on-chain trading fees, then become transferable fractional equity exposure. Beneficiaries are the trading volume of the Robinhood Chain and the map traffic of Touch Grass, while the legal boundaries of the underlying stock companies are under pressure—fragments can enter wallets and be sold on decentralized exchanges, but cannot buy tickets to shareholder meetings.
