The block subsidy will decrease from 3.125 BTC to 1.5625 BTC, reducing the daily issuance to approximately 225 BTC. The date fluctuates with the block generation speed and is not a fixed calendar date.

The current height is approximately 967,531, with about 82,469 blocks remaining, marking about 60.7% progress in this 210,000 block cycle. The last halving occurred on April 20, 2024, at 840,000 blocks, with the reward dropping from 6.25 BTC to 3.125 BTC. Approximately 95.6% of the total supply has been mined, with a hard cap of 21 million BTC. Recent spot prices closed around $77,800, with a historical closing high of about $124,774 in October 2025.

After the halving, miner income will be halved if fees remain unchanged, leading to marginal miners exiting and a redistribution of hash power, a trend observed in the last halving. Institutional and treasury holdings are expected to occupy a larger proportion of the circulating supply before the halving, with publicly reported figures from Strategy and BlackRock combined previously estimated at around one million BTC. The four-year cycle narrative frames the 578 days as the "latter half," and the price trajectory is not solely determined by the countdown.

If block generation occurs faster than 10 minutes, the date will move forward; difficulty adjustments will pull the average back. This is the fifth halving and one of the last rounds where the reward still contains whole coins. After this, the annual issuance rate will further drop below the common growth rate of gold mining.

From a market mechanism perspective, this anticipates a future supply contraction in convening trades: buying thinner new coins post-halving and the expectation of miners being forced to sell less, while selling is based on a four-year bull-bear chart extrapolated linearly from the 578-day countdown. Beneficiaries include miners with low electricity costs, amortized mining machines, and those who can withstand the halved rewards; those under pressure include high electricity cost custodians and high-valuation treasury stocks reliant on issuance. The countdown itself does not create buying pressure but provides a common calendar.

Additionally, the fee ratio will determine who remains after the halving. The debate over quantum resistance and tail emissions is still at the protocol level, far from activation. The spot price is below previous highs, and the halving countdown does not synchronize with price peaks.
