OpenAI Codex Launches Record & Replay Feature, Demonstration on Mac Becomes Skill

OpenAI Codex has launched the Record & Replay feature, allowing users to demonstrate a repetitive task on Mac. Codex observes the process and automatically generates reusable Skills, enabling automatic execution by simply changing input parameters next time.

Currently limited to macOS (not available in the EU), it requires enabling Computer Use to function, supporting automation of fixed processes such as reimbursements, video publishing, and issue creation.

AI agents are shifting from text commands to demonstration learning, lowering the barriers for developers and users, while efficiently automating daily repetitive tasks, accelerating the flow of funds towards AI workflow tools.

OpenAI Codex previously supported code generation and agents. The new Record & Replay feature generates editable Skills through demonstration learning, continuing its evolution into practical automation tools, addressing the challenge of accurately describing complex processes in text.

In terms of capital pathways, OpenAI invests in desktop control and Skill reuse mechanisms, concentrating resources to enhance user engagement and enterprise adoption, motivated to expand Codex from a coding assistant to a comprehensive workflow platform, capturing the market for automating daily tasks.

Similar to AI tools like Cursor with skill recording features, AI agents are transitioning from command-driven to demonstration-driven phases, and OpenAI's move strengthens its practical advantages.

Essentially, this is a technological substitution, where the mechanism of demonstration as programming reduces cognitive load, shifting pricing power towards AI platforms that provide low-barrier reusable automation capabilities, promoting the reconstruction of individual and enterprise workflows into AI-native environments.
