Google Cloud and Solana Launch AI Agent Payment System Pay.sh

Google Cloud and Solana Foundation have jointly launched Pay.sh, a payment system designed specifically for AI agents, enabling on-demand micropayments for API calls on the Solana blockchain using stablecoins.

The system is based on the x402 protocol incubated by Coinbase, allowing AI agents to discover, call, and automatically pay for API services without needing to register accounts or subscribe, achieving a true "pay-per-use" model.

Pay.sh operates on Google Cloud and has integrated over 50 API service providers, supporting scenarios such as data analysis and model inference, and is compatible with the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP).

Google Cloud has previously collaborated with Solana in the fields of blockchain storage and computing. The launch of Pay.sh continues the transition from traditional API subscription models to an AI agent-native economy. The earlier Coinbase x402 protocol laid the groundwork for autonomous payments by agents, allowing Google to achieve seamless backend service connections through the agent layer.

In terms of capital pathways, Pay.sh allows AI agents to bind Solana wallets as identity markers and automatically recharge and settle via stablecoins or credit cards. The strategic motivation is to significantly lower the barriers to using AI services, enabling real-time billing based on usage, while deeply integrating Google Cloud's API resources with Solana's high-performance payment network to capture a position in the infrastructure of the agent economy.

Similar to OpenAI's early payment integrations or AWS's exploration of agent payment solutions, the AI infrastructure is in the early stages of transitioning from human-centered subscriptions to autonomous consumption by agents. Platforms that combine cloud backend with on-chain micropayments will gain significant first-mover advantages.

Essentially, this represents a restructuring of the industry chain: Pay.sh shifts the payment process for AI agents from centralized accounts to real-time on-chain micropayments. The mechanism relies on the x402 protocol and stablecoins to achieve frictionless automatic settlement, shifting pricing power from traditional monthly subscriptions to dynamic charges based on actual usage, accelerating the concentration of capital in cloud and blockchain infrastructure that supports the "Agentic Economy."

The more autonomous the AI agents become, the more micropayments will become the infrastructure, and the subscription model is being completely replaced by "pay-per-use." When wallets serve as identities, API calls shift from manual approval to automatic deductions; whoever controls the payment layer controls the entry to the agent economy. The earlier cloud platforms integrate stablecoins, the faster the agent economy will take off, as real-time payments are the true accelerator for scaling AI.
