Bitaxe Miner Earns $200,000 Reward for Solo Bitcoin Block

A miner using a single-chip Bitaxe ASIC miner (hash rate approximately 1 TH/s) successfully mined Bitcoin block 957,382, claiming the full block reward of 3.1382 BTC, valued at around $200,000.

The miner did not overclock the device and mined through the zero-fee Public Pool, retaining 100% of the block subsidy and fees, with an effective share difficulty of 294.14T.

Based on a hash rate of 1 TH/s, it would take an average of 16,000 years to mine a single block, making this win probability still much higher than buying a lottery ticket.

Small ASIC devices like Bitaxe have gained popularity in the Bitcoin enthusiast community in recent years. This event continues the culture of solo mining and low-hash-rate "lottery-style" mining, reminiscent of historical cases where low-hash miners have struck lucky. It highlights the randomness of the Bitcoin PoW mechanism.

On the capital front, small miners retain all rewards through the zero-fee Public Pool model, strategically allowing for low-cost participation in network security while aiming for extreme positive returns, despite the negative mathematical expectation.

Similar to multiple instances over the past decade where single machines or small pools have mined blocks, the current Bitcoin network is in a stage of high hash rate concentration, yet low-probability events can still occur. After the block reward halving, such stories gain even more traction.

This essentially represents a technological alternative under capital concentration: although industrial-scale mining dominates hash rate distribution, small devices can still earn rewards purely through randomness. The mechanism is rooted in the Bitcoin protocol's design for uniformly random block generation, which remains unchanged despite hash rate concentration, maintaining the narrative of decentralization and broad participation.

ABAB News · Law of Cognition

  1. Bitcoin mining is a long-term lottery with extremely low probabilities, and small hash rates can still win big.

  2. No matter how low the probability, as long as the rules are fair, there will always be someone who can beat expectations through luck.

  3. Hash rate concentration does not equate to opportunity monopoly; the protocol's randomness protects the romance of the network.
