Elon Musk shared a guide on hiring the first Grok Bot employee. In his post, he mentioned that it really feels like hiring an excellent assistant that learns your needs and gets smarter almost every day. The original post described Grok Bot as something that can hold a job, work continuously in tools for hours, and then deliver the finished product, suggesting it might be the first hire rather than just writing a prompt.

The guide's operational sequence is the opposite of "connect all tools and then make a wish." It states to first hire for a position rather than a task, using a job description that will still be valid next month; the first job should be boring, frequent enough to test, and cheap enough to withdraw; the trial should first run in text, asking how it would do, before allowing it to take action; completion standards should be defined before starting work, with useful not counting as standards, only verifiable checklists count.

Permissions are described as a key, not a string of keys, with the boundary drawn on whether it is revocable, not on its importance. The trial period consists of three runs, with one success counting as an event, and reliability counting as a pattern. Promotion requires evidence: five clean runs, rollback tests done, and no unresolved side effects. The guide also warns that vague large tasks can cause issues after the second attempt, such as archiving threads that shouldn't be archived or trusting sources that should be flagged.

Grok Bot is not the same product as the chat version of Grok. xAI launched it in beta in August 2026 and opened it to enterprise customers in September. Each bot has a cloud computer and browser, logging into users' applications and websites, stopping at sensitive steps to wait for approval after completing a task; it has independent desktop and mobile applications and does not run on grok.com. The four bots publicly recruited by xAI are Preppy, Pulse, Scout, and eVal, which handle pre-interview briefs, draft feedback based on scorecards, find candidates overnight and input them into the recruitment system, and identify failure points from accepted and rejected resumes, respectively.

Musk's retweet has visible interactions of about 19,960 likes, 2,147 retweets, 1,294 replies, and 23.8 million views. Earlier the same day, he also retweeted another post that simply stated to try Grok Bot. That post claimed that the engineers leading the product submitted 2,500 code merge requests last month; this is a claim in the retweet chain, not an xAI product announcement.

This is a public pitch to include subscription products in recruitment budgets, not a new round of financing. The buyers are individuals and companies originally looking to hire junior assistants, while the seller is xAI, providing cloud computers, login rights, and approval pauses. Money shifts from the salary of the first human employee to a revocable bot position. The beneficiaries are teams that delegate overnight searches, briefs, and drafts to the bot while retaining the sending and hiring decisions; the pressure is on human assistants who rely on verifiable, revocable entry-level tasks to earn their first salary.

The guide does not disclose pricing or compensation terms for bot errors. It keeps the first day's requirements to revocable minor tasks and places promotion after five clean runs.
