GoDaddy CEO Says Every AI Agent Should Register Name, Parentage, and History in DNS, Traffic from Agents Will Exceed Human Visits
GoDaddy CEO Aman Bhutani stated that every AI agent should have a name, parentage, and historical record, and should be registered in the DNS.
At the Stanford AI Safety and Governance Summit, he mentioned that the agent naming service (ANS) developed by GoDaddy is an open standard and is being advanced in collaboration with the Linux Foundation.
Each agent will have a name and complete registration, with parentage, hierarchy, and history, all information can be queried in a globally unique registry DNS.
Bhutani also predicted that by 2027, small businesses will find that their largest new customers will be AI, and traffic from agents will exceed human visits.
GoDaddy's ANS will anchor agent identities to DNS and public key infrastructure, supporting discovery, verification, and governance, and has opened APIs and standard documentation to developers.
The system is supported by Cloudflare, Cisco, Salesforce, and Infoblox, is already running in production environments, and is being handed over to a neutral foundation for management.
Agent identity registration enhances the trust layer of the internet, concentrating domain names and DNS traffic towards infrastructure providers like GoDaddy, while unregistered or unverifiable agents face pressure.

GoDaddy has long operated the world's largest domain registration and DNS infrastructure, launching the agent naming service (ANS) in 2025, which binds AI agent identities to the existing DNS and certificate systems and promotes it as an open standard, ultimately handing it over to the Linux Foundation. The company is simultaneously expanding its developer platform API, allowing AI agents to directly handle domains, hosting, email, and e-commerce.
In terms of capital and resource pathways, GoDaddy extends its existing DNS and PKI assets to the AI agent layer, attracting partners through open standards and increasing domain registration and certificate usage. The growth of agent traffic will directly drive demand for its core business.
Similar cases include the early standardization of the domain name system and the proliferation of SSL certificates, as well as the current competition among multiple companies for AI agent identity and discovery standards. We are currently in a phase where AI agents are moving from experimentation to production, requiring verifiable identities and global discoverability.
Essentially, this is a restructuring of the industry chain: the existing internet naming and trust infrastructure is extending to the AI agent layer, with DNS becoming the global anchor point for agent identities and histories, while pricing power and control are concentrating in companies with large-scale domain and DNS operational capabilities.
