Network State Conference Held in Singapore, Balaji Challenges Speakers One by One

Erica Kang stated that the Network State Conference had a high signal density, a solid agenda, and praised Balaji for challenging speakers one by one on stage.

The conference was held on October 9 at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre, following Token2049, with on-site tickets priced at $99 and remote attendance free, attracting around 5,000 registrations.

Speakers included Vitalik Buterin, Zooko Wilcox, Curtis Yarvin, Eric Weinstein, Mike Maples, Illia Polosukhin, Haseeb Qureshi, Richard Teng, among others, with a special Zcash Zummit session.

Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister Zhaslan Madiyev, Minister of Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek, and officials from Alatau City attended, emphasizing sovereignty, privacy, cryptographic identity, and the concept of network states.

In his opening and closing speeches, Balaji mentioned that Network School is collaborating with Kazakhstan to advance STEM degree accreditation and noted that Polychain led a funding round for Network School, valuing it at $2 billion, with participation from a16z and Coinbase.

In terms of market mechanisms, practitioners of crypto and sovereign technology gathered through low-priced tickets and free live streaming, directing funds towards financing and community building for Network School; investors and governments supporting network states and privacy technologies benefit from the influx of talent and capital, while traditional centralized governance models face exit pressures.

The conference was live-streamed throughout the day, covering topics such as sovereignty, privacy, cryptocurrency, and historical trajectories, with Balaji and Yarvin discussing decentralized democracy and centralization.

Balaji previously proposed the concept of network states, founded Network School, and collaborated with Kazakhstan to advance physical communities and degree accreditation, continuing his path from Coinbase CTO to independently building parallel systems, initially gaining influence through books and communities.

Capital is entering Network School through a $2 billion valuation round led by Polychain, with participation from a16z and Coinbase, concentrating resources on entrepreneurial communities and urban projects in collaboration with sovereign states, motivated by the goal of transforming digital communities into transferable physical exit options.

This is similar to early cryptocurrency attempts at parallel systems to traditional finance or special zone policies in specific countries to attract digital nomads. It is currently transitioning from conceptual discussions to practical collaborations with governments and financing expansions, prioritizing control over talent and capital flows rather than purely technical development.

Essentially, this involves restructuring the industrial chain and transferring pricing power: through network states and cryptographic identities, talent, capital, and governance are partially detached from existing national systems. The mechanism lies in the internet lowering migration costs, allowing high-signal communities to attract resources and form new competitive nodes, thereby reshaping the distribution of sovereignty and exit rights.
