Cosmostation Wallet announces termination of services

The second largest wallet in the Cosmos ecosystem, Cosmostation Wallet, has announced its decision to terminate services.

Starting September 1, 2026, the wallet will only retain the functionality for exporting mnemonic phrases and private keys, while all other features will be gradually shut down.

Affected products include the iOS version, Android version, and Chrome browser extension.

This wallet is non-custodial, meaning user assets are stored on various blockchains rather than on official servers.

The official strongly recommends that users properly back up their mnemonic phrases or private keys before September 1 and continue managing their assets through other wallets that support import functionality. After the complete termination of services, the official will no longer provide any support through the application.

This decision is driven by operational adjustments, requiring users to proactively migrate to ensure access to their assets; the beneficiaries will be other wallets compatible with the Cosmos ecosystem, while existing users who rely on this application will face challenges.

Cosmostation has operated as a core non-custodial wallet in the Cosmos ecosystem since 2018, supporting multi-chain assets, staking, and governance, with a market share ranking second. Previously, Leap Wallet was shut down in May, indicating ongoing consolidation in the ecosystem wallet layer.

On the capital path, the team has chosen to scale back wallet operations after long-term operation, possibly shifting to other contribution methods; the motivation lies in resource reallocation, allowing users to seamlessly migrate assets through mnemonic phrase imports to other wallets.

Similar cases can be seen in multiple blockchain ecosystems where wallet projects exit due to competition or resource issues, such as the shutdown of some early Ethereum light wallets; currently, Cosmos is in a phase of infrastructure consolidation, transitioning from coexistence of multiple wallets to concentration among leading ones.

This essentially represents a restructuring of the industry chain: after the ecosystem matures, redundant tools naturally phase out, with the mechanism ensuring asset security through non-custodial design while forcing users to rely on universal import standards for migration, thereby reducing the risk of dependency on a single application.
