Layer 2 Metis to Terminate Stargate Support on October 23

According to Metis' official X account, there will be two changes to Metis Andromeda this month: support for Stargate will end on October 23, and LayerZero V1 routing must be completed before this date; on October 30, LayerZero Labs' DVN and Executor will stop providing services to Metis.

Users providing liquidity to the Stargate pool on Metis must withdraw before October 23, and those who have staked must first unstake before selecting Metis Andromeda for withdrawal in the Stargate application.

Users holding m.USDC, m.USDT, WETH, and METIS will not be affected, as these assets are issued by Metis' official cross-chain bridge, and minting, redemption, and the official cross-chain bridge between Ethereum and Metis will continue to operate as usual.

Additionally, the Stargate V1 pool will close on December 15 across all chains.

OApps or OFTs relying on LayerZero Labs' default DVN and Executor must complete new DVN configurations or migrate to other supported chains by October 30; LayerZero V2 paths between Metis and Ethereum, BNB Chain, and GOAT Network can continue to operate under new configurations, while other paths must be migrated in advance.

LayerZero V1 integrations (such as native METIS adapters, HERA, QI, MTVT) cannot be configured to the new DVN, and holders must bridge back through the original path by October 23.

The official statement indicates that most holders do not need to take action, as the changes only involve Stargate and LayerZero Labs' off-chain services and do not affect Metis' official cross-chain bridge.

As an Ethereum Layer 2, Metis has long relied on LayerZero and Stargate for cross-chain liquidity and messaging; in 2026, LayerZero will advance to V2 and a new DVN system. The Metis official released a migration guide at the end of September, clarifying the termination of Stargate on Andromeda on October 23, the cessation of default DVN/Executor on October 30, and providing alternative path configurations and V1 asset bridge back requirements.

Liquidity providers must withdraw from the Stargate pool before the deadline (stakers must first unstake), and developers can choose to enable new DVN paths (Metis-Ethereum, BNB, GOAT) or migrate assets to other EVM chains; the official cross-chain bridge assets will maintain minting, redemption, and the Ethereum-Metis bridging unchanged, while the Stargate V1 pool will close across all chains on December 15.

This is similar to other Layer 2s requiring liquidity migration and configuration updates during cross-chain protocol upgrades or service terminations (such as handling during the transition from LayerZero V1 to V2), or bridge protocols contracting support for specific chains to focus on high-activity paths; currently, Metis is in a transition phase from relying on default LayerZero services to prioritizing its own path configurations and official bridges.

Essentially, this represents a restructuring of the industry chain: cross-chain infrastructure is shifting from unified default services to chain-specific DVN and Executor configurations, moving message verification and execution from LayerZero Labs' centralized provision to application-side active enabling or migration; liquidity is flowing back from the Stargate pool to the official bridge or other paths, reducing reliance on a single bridge protocol while increasing operational windows and migration costs for developers and LPs.
