Tesla AI Account Renamed to TeslaSI

The official account of Tesla's artificial intelligence team on X has been renamed to Tesla Super Intelligence, with the username changed from Tesla_AI to TeslaSI, and the original username no longer exists. The renaming occurred on the evening of October 8, without a separate announcement from the account itself.

Senior engineer Yun-Ta Tsai's public profile has been updated to Senior Staff Engineer at TeslaSI, and at 7:02 PM Pacific Time, he stated that Tesla Super Intelligence is the only team focused on solving real-world intelligence, with a path from large-scale bits to atoms. Elon Musk retweeted this post about an hour later. Reports indicate that the account has over 510,000 followers.

The renaming took place after U.S. President Donald Trump signed Executive Order 14434 on September 29. The order, titled Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence, requires executive departments to use Super Intelligence and SI instead of Artificial Intelligence and AI in official correspondence, public communications, websites, reports, and policy documents, without acknowledging the latter terms. The order does not mandate changes to existing regulations, presidential actions, contracts, appropriations, and historical documents, nor does it constrain private enterprises.

The executive order defines SI as the artificial intelligence technologies and systems covered under Section 9401(3) of Title 15 of the U.S. Code. The related definition work must be completed within 60 days of the order's issuance, with a deadline of November 28.

On October 4, Elon Musk stated that he would no longer use AI and that referring to it as SI is better, confirming that SpaceXAI will also be renamed to SpaceXSI, while stating that SpaceX is a superintelligence company. SpaceX has acquired xAI this year, and if the company name is finalized, it will be the second name change for that business within the year. Tesla previously converted its $2 billion investment in xAI into minority equity in SpaceX, thus indirectly holding related assets.

The account renaming does not change deliveries, orders, or capital expenditures; it is a branding and terminology event. Buyers are trading on whether the narratives around autonomous driving, robotics, and self-developed chips are more aligned with federal terminology; sellers are trading on the fact that the name change does not rewrite the regulatory path or statutory definitions for FSD. Currently, there is no verifiable influx of funds into Tesla stock driven solely by this name change. Beneficiaries are the engineering teams linking superintelligence to vehicles and robots; those under pressure are the federal contracting systems that still sign contracts, draft regulations, and procure documents under AI, as the new nomenclature runs parallel to existing texts.

On the industry side, Safe Superintelligence, Meta Superintelligence Labs, and Microsoft's MAI Superintelligence Team had already used the term superintelligence before the executive order. X.AI LLC registered SpaceXSI.com on July 25, 2025. Tesla's account is the first within Musk's ecosystem to complete the public replacement, while the company name and branding for SpaceXAI have yet to be finalized.

Elon Musk's naming actions follow a fixed path. In 2023, he changed Twitter to X and established xAI the same year; in 2026, after SpaceX acquired xAI, the business was initially called SpaceXAI, and he confirmed on October 4 that it would be renamed SpaceXSI. Tesla has long used Autopilot, FSD, Dojo, and Optimus for product stratification, and in 2018 reached a settlement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission due to a tweet about "secured funding," temporarily stepping down as chairman. This account replacement follows the same method: first changing the external symbol, then solidifying the new symbol through engineer profiles and retweets.

Capital has not opened a new financing channel due to this name change. Tesla will convert its $2 billion investment in xAI into minority equity in SpaceX around 2026, effectively anchoring the automaker's cash into aerospace and model company equity, rather than establishing a separate AI subsidiary. On the computing side, xAI's Colossus cluster and Tesla's in-vehicle inference and robotics execution are two separate ledgers: one side buys GPUs for training, while the other uses its own fleet and factories to provide data and real-world scenarios. The motivation to align with federal terminology is more about procurement and communication interfaces, rather than a shift in technical direction.

The comparable factor is not the name change itself, but the rush to register the superintelligence label. Ilya Sutskever's Safe Superintelligence has been operating with an estimated valuation of around $32 billion before the executive order; Meta established Superintelligence Labs in June 2025, led by Alexandr Wang; Microsoft set up the MAI Superintelligence Team in November 2025, headed by Mustafa Suleyman. Tesla is currently in a control phase: not establishing new labs, but first occupying external accounts and engineer identities, integrating existing FSD and Optimus narratives into the new terminology.

Essentially, it is a transfer of pricing power within the context of terminology pricing power. Federal documents redefine SI back to existing statutory definitions of artificial intelligence; the technical extension remains unchanged, but what varies is who qualifies to be referred to in official texts. Private companies are not obligated to follow suit, but once federal communications, websites, and reports cease using AI, bidding, media references, and recruitment keywords will be forced to be rewritten. The party that changes the account first gains the search and narrative entry, while the later party bears the costs of migrating documents, contracts, and branding.

  1. Change the name first, supplement the definition later, and the entry has already changed hands.

  2. Terminology is a free asset; contracts are the paid migration.

  3. Policy changes names, capital changes narratives, but technology may not change routes.
