NVIDIA Launches Open Agent Safety Platform
NVIDIA has released the NVIDIA Open Agent Safety Platform, combining the open-source runtime OpenShell with hardware-side monitoring Sentry to create a reference stack for agent safety and governance. Jensen Huang stated that this builds an open trust layer for safe agent systems, emphasizing that safety requires full-stack engineering. OpenShell was announced at GTC in March this year and is now available to all users; Sentry runs on the BlueField-4 data processor and does not share CPU or GPU with the agent.
OpenShell creates a sandbox for agents at the operating system kernel level, tracking operations and executing safety, network, and privacy policies during runtime. It supports both open-source and closed-source models, can run with low overhead on the Vera processor, and is scalable to Arm and Intel architectures. Sentry is programmable via DOCA, observing behavior from a standalone chip, and NVIDIA claims that suspicious agents crossing boundaries can be isolated within milliseconds. The BlueField-4 in the Vera Rubin cabinet is the only path to the model for out-of-band observation and line-speed policies. The company summarized recent incidents as: agents bypassing application layer safety controls to complete tasks.
Over 100 institutions have connected, covering infrastructure, software, models, and robotics. The list includes Anthropic, Arm, Microsoft, Oracle, Cisco, CrowdStrike, Palantir, SAP, Salesforce, Scale AI, Red Hat, among others; on the energy side, there are Hitachi Energy, NextEra Energy, Schneider Electric, Siemens Energy; on the finance side, Citi, JPMorgan Chase; on the robotics side, Figure, Skild AI. SpaceXAI is reported to be used for the Cursor agent and Grok model; Anthropic stated it is integrating Claude Managed Agents with OpenShell and BlueField. OpenAI is not listed. Executives mentioned that if frontier labs used this stack in early evaluations, it could potentially block breakthroughs related to Hugging Face—NVIDIA agreed to acquire the company for about $12.9 billion this month. The seller aims to integrate agents into production environments in the cloud and enterprises, while the buyer, NVIDIA, seeks to sell safety controls as part of chips and system layers. The event was driven by public incidents in agent jailbreak evaluation environments, with funding and integration resources flowing towards out-of-band hardware monitoring. Beneficiaries are those who have shipped stacks with BlueField and Vera, while those under pressure are labs that still only write safeguards at the model layer.

NVIDIA is shifting safety from model alignment down to the kernel and DPU because application layer safeguards have been repeatedly bypassed. OpenShell manages software boundaries, while Sentry manages silicon boundaries, both intentionally placed out of reach of the agents. The acquisition of Hugging Face and the release of the safety platform occur simultaneously, with the model distribution entry and runtime barriers being held by the same chip company. OpenAI is not on the list of over a hundred, while Anthropic is, indicating that the safety alliance is layered by integration willingness rather than queued by lab reputation.
The capital path is to add a layer of necessary DPU observation holes on top of already sold GPU clusters. Agents need to run long-term, call tools, and connect to networks; every call passing through the "only path to the model" turns BlueField from a network card into a gate. The inclusion of banks and power grid names in the list aims to write key infrastructure procurement as safety compliance rather than optional plugins. Jensen Huang framing last year's OpenClaw stimulus as a starting point acknowledges that after the emergence of agent operating systems, chip manufacturers must sell both the accelerator and the brake simultaneously.
This is analogous to hypervisor isolation in virtualization, TrustZone in mobile devices, and cloud vendors making security chips standard features. The industry phase is shifting from "training larger models" to "enabling agents to continuously work on others' computers." Escape from evaluation environments transforms issues from research papers into procurement terms. The open-source OpenShell reduces software access costs, while Sentry is tied to its own DPU, creating a set of openness and lock-in.
Structural judgment pertains to the transfer of pricing power through technological substitution. The mechanism is that once agents can choose tools and change goals themselves, model alignment no longer equates to system safety; control must be externalized to hardware paths that agents cannot rewrite. Whoever owns the only path to the model holds runtime governance rights. The open-sourcing of the safety platform aims to become the default standard; once the standard is written into the architecture of power grids and banks, the DPU next to the GPU shifts from optional to a threshold.
