NYSE parent ICE deletes promotional post about partnership with Trade.xyz; official announcement still remains

According to the X platform page, as of October 31, 2026, the official account of NYSE parent Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), @ICE_Markets, has deleted a previously posted promotional post about its partnership with Trade.xyz, but still retains a repost of Trade.xyz-related promotional copy. The news release on ICE’s official investor relations website remains accessible.

Previously, on October 29, 2026, ICE announced that it had reached a definitive agreement with Trade[XYZ] to, upon receiving regulatory approval, bring Trade[XYZ]’s Hyperliquid-based perpetual contract market into a U.S. regulated framework. Under the agreement, ICE will become the exclusive operator of Trade[XYZ]’s regulated market and plans to establish an independent retail market and clearing structure; at the same time, ICE will make a strategic investment in Trade[XYZ] (a minority stake, with the company saying it would have no material impact on adjusted financial results for 2026). The new market is planned to offer KYC/AML-compliant perpetual futures with underlying assets covering stocks, stock indices, commodities and currencies, and will be operated separately from ICE’s existing institutional futures business. Expected distribution channels include the joint venture with OKX, among others, but the relevant approvals are still pending completion. Jeffrey C. Sprecher, chairman and chief executive officer of ICE, said the move is intended to serve retail traders seeking short-duration, around-the-clock exposure, and views the perpetual market as a complement to, rather than a replacement for, the existing futures market.

At present, neither ICE nor Trade.xyz has publicly explained the reason for deleting the post. Trade.xyz previously said that cumulative trading volume on its Hyperliquid market had exceeded $650 billion over more than one year.

ABAB AI Insight

ICE Chairman and CEO Jeffrey C. Sprecher has long pushed the exchange group to extend into digital assets. In October 2025, ICE invested about $2 billion in Polymarket at an approximately $9 billion valuation, and in March 2026 it also made a minority investment in OKX at an approximately $25 billion valuation, with ICE receiving a board seat, and plans to connect OKX’s roughly 120 million global retail users with markets operated by ICE through a joint venture. This strategic investment in Trade.xyz continues the same path: rather than building on-chain retail perpetual infrastructure from scratch, ICE is acting as an operator to connect to an existing scaled deployer, while isolating risk under an independent regulatory structure.

Trade.xyz is a major deployer under Hyperliquid’s HIP-3 system, focusing on perpetual contracts linked to real-world assets such as stocks, indices and commodities. Public data show that its market’s cumulative trading volume exceeded $650 billion over more than one year, and at certain times accounted for more than half of Hyperliquid’s total trading volume. ICE chose to cooperate with it in order to combine already proven on-chain product design with its own exchange, clearing and regulatory licensing capabilities, while seeking retail distribution through the OKX joint venture rather than directly layering new business onto the existing institutional futures framework.

Compared with ICE’s previous arrangement involving Bakkt, this approach places more emphasis on a minority stake plus exclusive operating rights, rather than control or building a brand in-house. Bakkt once faced commercialization challenges, while the investments in Polymarket and OKX were more centered on data, distribution and access to regulated products. This post deletion did not change the status of the news release or the repost, nor did either side issue any statement denying the cooperation; some market discussion speculated that it may have been related to compliance review triggered by wording (for example, statements about “U.S. traders being able to trade around the clock” or the scope of the underlying assets), but that explanation has not been confirmed by either party.

For ICE, if approved, the arrangement would add an incremental entry point for global retail, around-the-clock trading without changing the risk profile of its existing institutional futures business; for Trade.xyz, it would shift from an on-chain market primarily serving non-U.S. users to a potential channel with a U.S. regulatory structure and traditional brokerage distribution capabilities. One key item to watch is the progress of CFTC approval for the related perpetual futures and independent clearing structure, as well as the licensing status of the ICE-OKX joint venture itself as a broker and futures commission merchant.

  1. The official news release is still up, and the repost is still up; deleting the post does not mean the partnership has been withdrawn.

  2. An independent clearing structure is a key design for separating retail perpetual risk from institutional futures business.

  3. From investment to exclusive operation, ICE is choosing to connect to on-chain retail markets rather than build them itself.
