ChatGPT Desktop Launches Meeting Notes Plugin

ChatGPT has launched a beta version of the Meetings plugin. It records notes during meetings and writes personalized summaries and next steps into ChatGPT Space. The summaries are based on what ChatGPT already knows about the user and the work done together previously.

Notes can remain private or be shared with the team. After the meeting, ChatGPT can update project plans or draft follow-ups. The testing scope is limited to Pro and Business users of the ChatGPT desktop application, with the system restricted to macOS. Enterprise access will follow. The installation path is to first download the desktop application and then search for Meetings in the plugin directory.

The post did not specify the recording retention period, whether video conferencing integration is supported, or the maximum duration for each meeting. Records, summaries, and to-dos are kept in the same Space, without opening a separate note-taking product. Personalization comes from existing conversations and work records, not from templates filled out during the meeting.

Sharing is noted as optional. Private notes remain in personal space, while shared summaries and next steps can be viewed by others. Subsequent actions still return to ChatGPT: modifying plans or writing follow-ups, without exporting to third-party documents mentioned in announcements.

The desktop version is entry-restricted. The web and mobile versions are not included in this availability. Business accounts receive access to the plugin directory before Enterprise, indicating that team accounts receive the plugin earlier than enterprise-compliant versions. The directory search is a distribution method, not a system-level default activation.

This is a feature launch within the subscription, not a new pay-per-use service. Buyers are users who have already paid for Pro or Business and will hold meetings on Mac, while sellers are independent tools that previously sold meeting notes by seat. Beneficiaries are those who keep post-meeting summaries in Space for ChatGPT renewals, while those under pressure are recording applications that only transcribe audio without project context. The enterprise version has not launched, and the procurement process has not yet received this plugin.

In 2023, OpenAI turned plugins into an external directory for ChatGPT, subsequently reclaiming tools within the application using GPTs and the desktop app. By 2026, the desktop version had integrated Google Docs connectors and small business usage. The Meetings plugin is distributed along the same directory, not as a standalone recording company. Records are written into Space, using people and projects from existing conversations, rather than pasting a transcript after the meeting.

Revenue remains with Pro and Business seats. Testing does not have a separate price tag, with Enterprise following, meaning personal and team accounts are allowed to trial first before entering procurement with compliance review. If summaries and next steps remain in Space, the next plan update does not require switching tools. The rationale for charging independent recording products by seat or duration is thus eliminated.

Comparable services include Otter and Fireflies offering meeting recordings as standalone subscriptions, and Microsoft integrating Copilot into Teams. Granola focuses on local notes for personal viewing. ChatGPT is in the phase of consolidating post-meeting actions within the same account: starting with Mac desktop, followed by Enterprise, while web and mobile are not included in this announcement. Distribution relies on plugin directory searches, not bundled with meeting software by default.

Structurally, the technology replaces post-meeting actions. Recording and transcription are already standard features, with the difference being whether the summary includes the person's previous projects. The plugin writes next steps back into Space, with plan updates and follow-up drafts no longer exported. The replacement is the first draft of the recorder, not the meeting itself. The enterprise version has not arrived, and management permissions and retention rules have not yet entered this product.

  1. Records are not valuable; the next steps with context are valuable.

  2. The plugin enters old subscriptions, not as a new product.

  3. Individuals trial first, with enterprise procurement following.
