Coinbase Business Supports AI Agents Buying Domains on Atom via x402

Brian Armstrong reposted a Coinbase Business post on X on October 27, 2026, saying that agents can now buy domains.

Coinbase Business announced that AI agents can purchase domains on the Atom (atomHQ) platform, with payments supported by Coinbase Business using the x402 protocol. Previously, x402 was mainly used for payments for data and API requests, and it has now been extended to domain purchases.

Atom’s official blog confirmed that agents can search for domains, display prices and terms, and complete payment in USDC on the Base chain after buyer approval, then register the domain. In the example, an agent bought austastic.xyz for 1.80 USDC. Payment is charged only after registration succeeds.

This feature extends x402 from API and data payments to the purchase of digital assets such as domains. The agent handles search and authorization signing, while the buyer retains control over funds and approval rights.

Transactions are settled on the Base chain in stablecoins, and payment is tied to successful registration. Atom also supports other payment methods. This provides a specific path for AI agents to independently complete certain digital goods transactions.
