Franklin Templeton completes listing registration for two stock-dividend-reinvestment Bitcoin ETFs

On October 22, Franklin Templeton filed Form 8-A with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to register the shares of the Franklin US Equity Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF and the Franklin US Innovation Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF, with plans to list on Nasdaq. A prospectus filed the same day lists an effective date of October 27.

Both funds track VettaFi indexes and have an initial allocation of about 95% U.S. stocks and 5% Bitcoin-related exposure. Regular and special dividends paid by the underlying stocks will be reinvested into Bitcoin-related instruments at the market open one trading day after the ex-dividend date, rather than being reinvested in stocks or distributed in cash. Bitcoin exposure is obtained through ETFs, futures, options, or related instruments, with proportional caps and quarterly rebalancing rules.

Franklin Templeton previously filed preliminary documents in June. No specific trading start date has been announced yet.

ABAB AI Insight

On October 22, Franklin Templeton completed the exchange registration step for two “Bitcoin DRIP” ETFs. The funds track large U.S. companies and Nasdaq non-financial companies with an initial stock allocation of about 95% and Bitcoin-related exposure of about 5%.

The core mechanism is to reinvest underlying stock dividends into Bitcoin-related instruments at the market open one trading day after the ex-dividend date. Traditional dividend reinvestment usually buys more stock; here, the cash flow is directed toward Bitcoin exposure, implemented through ETFs, futures, options and similar instruments, without directly holding on-chain bitcoin.

The Bitcoin allocation is subject to constraints: at quarterly rebalancing, any portion above 5% is reduced to 4.5%, with an overall cap of about 20%. The prospectus lists an effective date of October 27, but the actual trading start date has not yet been announced. This design allows investors to indirectly benefit from dividend-driven Bitcoin accumulation through holding stock ETFs.
