Polymarket Investigates Precisely Timed Trades Ahead of Israeli Election

Prediction market platform Polymarket is investigating a series of precisely timed and highly profitable trades in this week’s Israeli election. According to Bloomberg’s analysis of Polymarket’s blockchain ledger, shortly before voting ended on Tuesday, hundreds of new accounts concentrated bets that Benjamin Netanyahu and his Likud party would outperform their rivals.

After some exit polls showed Netanyahu’s camp winning more seats than early reports indicated, those trades quickly turned profitable. Some accounts have already cashed out more than $100,000 in total, and many wallets still have unrealized gains. Polymarket’s internal investigative team told Bloomberg that it is reviewing dozens of newly created wallets. Data analytics firms Polysights and Bubblemaps also flagged the related activity as suspicious and launched investigations. A Bubblemaps representative told Reuters that 101 Polymarket accounts received funding for the first time on election day before voting ended, and some had already sold for profits after the exit polls.

This is the latest case in prediction markets to raise concerns about possible insider trading. Polymarket has previously come under regulatory and public scrutiny over precise predictions involving sports, the U.S. election and geopolitics, and the platform has also handed multiple suspected military-related trading leads to law enforcement.

Polymarket was founded by Shayne Coplan in 2020 and is a blockchain-based event contract platform. In October 2025, Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) announced an investment of up to $2 billion, with an initial $1 billion, and became its exclusive distributor of event data; in March 2026, ICE completed an additional $600 million cash investment, bringing the total to about $1.6 billion. The platform has a global intelligence and investigations team of about 16 people led by former FBI official Shana Bautista, and it has recently investigated dozens of trades related to the U.S. midterm elections and referred at least two cases to the CFTC.

On the capital side, ICE entered the prediction market through an equity investment in exchange for data distribution rights and institutional channels, rather than directly operating the prediction market itself. At the trading level, new accounts building positions in a concentrated way before voting ended and cashing out quickly after the exit polls resembles patterns the platform has had flagged by research firms in the past: new wallets, low-probability high-return bets, and highly concentrated timing. Chain analytics firms such as Bubblemaps and Polysights had previously identified similar clusters in markets related to Iran and military actions.

A comparable case is that of U.S. Army Special Forces soldier Gannon Ken Van Dyke in 2026. Prosecutors alleged that he used confidential information to bet on Polymarket that Venezuelan President Maduro would be arrested, investing about $33,000 and making more than $400,000 in profit; the court has rejected his motion to dismiss the case. Another study found that more than 150 wallets showed similar characteristics in military and geopolitical markets during 2025-2026, with cumulative profits of several million dollars. Unlike this Israeli election case, those cases involved known holders of confidential information, whereas here there is currently only a cluster of new accounts and matching timing, with no confirmed source of information.

This investigation changes the credibility boundary of prediction markets as a “wisdom of crowds” pricing tool: when hundreds of new accounts take the same side at a critical moment and then cash out quickly, the price discovery mechanism is more easily dominated by a small amount of concentrated capital rather than dispersed information aggregation. For ICE, as both a data distributor and a major shareholder, platform integrity directly affects the reliability of the event probability data it sells externally; for regulators, it is another test of whether event contracts should fall under traditional insider-trading frameworks. The key indicators to watch are whether the platform’s investigative conclusions are made public and whether the relevant wallets are referred to regulators or law enforcement.

  1. When new accounts build positions on the same side in a concentrated way at key moments and cash out quickly, crowd pricing is compressed into dominance by a small amount of capital.

  2. Licensed exchanges enter prediction markets through equity stakes and data distribution, yet they cannot directly block the information advantage of new on-chain wallets.

  3. Precise timing alone does not prove insider trading, but when clustered patterns keep recurring, the platform should respond with investigations rather than defaulting to the wisdom of crowds.
