SpaceX Completes Acquisition of Cursor, Computing Power Plus Data Equals Model Moat
SpaceX's acquisition of Cursor has been officially completed, with Cursor announcing that it has become part of SpaceX, and the team will join SpaceXAI.
The team will continue to develop Cursor while participating in Grok, Grok Build, Grok Bot, and Grok API.
This deal was finalized in June, with SpaceX acquiring Cursor's parent company Anysphere in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $60 billion.
The two parties had previously jointly trained Grok 4.5 and subsequently launched Grok 4.6 together.
Cursor has officially transitioned from a partner to an internal team at SpaceX, integrating SpaceX's computing power and Grok model with Cursor's developer products, data, and Agent capabilities into the same company.
From a market perspective, the all-stock acquisition further dilutes SpaceX's equity, concentrating funds and computing power on AI coding and Agent capabilities. SpaceXAI benefits from a closed loop of developer data and products, while independent AI coding startups face pressure from ecological integration competition.

Previously, SpaceX incorporated Grok into its system through the merger with xAI, and continued its expansion path of exchanging equity for key AI capabilities with the $60 billion all-stock acquisition of Cursor, allowing the four MIT alumni co-founders of Cursor to realize large-scale equity cash-out.
In terms of capital strategy, SpaceX uses publicly traded stock to secure Cursor's developer data and Agent technology, directly injecting resources into Grok model training and coding tools, motivated by the need to fill gaps in enterprise-level AI programming and to counter the coding product advantages of Anthropic and OpenAI.
Similar cases can be seen with Microsoft's acquisition of GitHub to strengthen the developer ecosystem, and Google's acquisition of DeepMind to integrate research capabilities; SpaceX is currently in a phase of expanding from aerospace and satellites to full-stack AI infrastructure.
The structural judgment belongs to the reconstruction of the industrial chain: the rocket company binds coding Agents and super computing power through acquisitions, with the mechanism being to use hardware and model advantages to reverse control the software development entry point, thereby seizing pricing power at the AI application layer.
