Aave Labs acquires Avon team: adding fixed-rate lending capabilities
Aave Labs has completed its acquisition of the Avon team and technology, with the aim of advancing on-chain fixed-rate lending business. The scope of the acquisition covers Avon’s fixed-rate and floating-rate lending protocols, on-chain order book, domain name, and related assets; the financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Under the agreement, Avon founders Prince Sinha and Ayush Kaul joined Aave Labs’ engineering team, and Omar el-Ashaal joined the business development team. The Avon team will initially focus on implementing fixed-rate products to help Aave expand the types of loans available for selection; its previous R&D focus included interest rate pricing, risk isolation, and lending market structure design.
Aave Labs CEO Stani Kulechov said that fixed rates are a product form that users already widely use in traditional finance, and that the Avon team will help Aave serve global institutions, fintech companies, and ordinary users. Aave network’s current deposit scale exceeds $30 billion, and outstanding loans exceed $12 billion. Avon’s technology will continue to be developed within the Aave ecosystem under the leadership of Aave Labs.
ABAB AI Insight
This acquisition injects the core elements of traditional fixed-rate credit — predictable costs, risk isolation, and order-book matching — into the on-chain lending market, which is currently dominated by floating-rate pools. The buyer (Aave Labs) gains ready-made protocol engineering and market structure design capabilities, while the seller (the Avon team) gains a scaled distribution channel. On the capital path, fixed-rate products are expected to attract institutional and enterprise users that need planned financing costs, and may also direct fee flows to the DAO treasury through Aave-branded products. The structural change lies in the transition from a single floating-rate pool to a multi-market structure plus risk isolation, reducing the immediate impact of demand shocks on borrowing costs and improving compatibility with traditional finance users and institutions.
