OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Control for Mac iMessage
OpenAI launched a new feature on Thursday local time that allows users to control Apple's iMessage service through ChatGPT on Mac computers.
This feature enables ChatGPT to read, write, and send messages, as well as retrieve information and generate conversation summaries, supporting iMessage, SMS, and RCS.
Previously, ChatGPT could integrate with Apple's development tools like Xcode, Notes, and Terminal, and could read data from the iOS Health app with specific authorization.
The new plugin requires user authorization, and sending messages requires confirmation by default. It can be used in ChatGPT Work and Codex, and currently only supports Apple Silicon Macs.
OpenAI emphasizes that this integration runs locally and does not create a complete message index.
Market-wise, this event pushes AI assistants towards deeper system integration, increasing demands for user data and permission openness, putting pressure on Apple's ecosystem privacy boundaries, benefiting AI platforms with local automation capabilities.

OpenAI continues to expand ChatGPT's local application integration on Mac, gradually moving from development tools and system applications into core communication, building a more complete desktop agent capability.
In terms of capital pathways, OpenAI is investing resources into cross-application automation and permission management, shifting users from independent chat windows to system-level assistants, concentrating funding and attention on AI products with deep OS integration.
Similar cases can be seen in the early binding of Siri with the system and current attempts by other AI desktop assistants for local control; we are currently in a phase where AI is transitioning from cloud-based conversations to local operating system agents.
Structurally, this is a technological substitution: AI is replacing manual message management and summarization tasks, with pricing power shifting from independent communication applications to intelligent routing and automation layers, achieving controllable deep integration through local permissions and user confirmations.
