DogeOS Launches Dogecoin EVM Public Testnet
DogeOS has opened the EVM-compatible public testnet Chikyū for developers to build trading, lending, gaming, and consumer applications before the mainnet launch. Transaction fees are paid in doge, and the underlying Dogecoin ledger remains unchanged.
This layer is a zero-knowledge rollup settled to Dogecoin. The testnet chain ID is 6281971, with RPC at rpc.testnet.dogeos.com and the explorer at dogeos-testnet.l2scan.co. The official claims block time is about 3 seconds with a throughput of approximately 300 transactions per second, compared to about 1 minute block time and around 30 transactions per second for Layer 1. A faucet allows users to claim test doge every 24 hours, and documentation states that Ethereum tools like hardhat and foundry can be deployed by simply changing the RPC.
The security model is still transitional. The current network uses trusted execution environments, a set of validators, and a permissioned sequencer; bridging state changes requires valid proofs, along with majority signatures from validators and tee signers. Dogecoin Core currently does not directly verify zk proofs. The team submitted OP_CHECKZKP to Dogecoin Core in July 2025, aiming to allow miners to natively verify execution proofs, but this upgrade has not yet been implemented. Founder and CEO Jordan Jefferson stated that the focus is on stabilizing the public testnet, with the mainnet timeline and other milestones to be announced later.
A list of applications has been specified: Barkswap for liquidity engine, Superposition Finance for lending, Derps for perpetual contracts, Split Markets for supposedly unliquidatable options, USDoge for cdp stablecoin, Snag for prediction market aggregation, Anoncoin and Starbase for launchpads, and Doge Escape, PlaysOut, and DogeFundMe for gaming and consumer applications. The launch of features depends on the progress of each team, with the mainnet not yet launched and no announcement of a DogeOS token.
The project comes from the MyDoge wallet team, which completed a $6.9 million seed round led by Polychain Capital in May 2025. Jefferson previously stated the goal is to enhance Dogecoin's on-chain economy and reduce reliance on a single celebrity narrative; Dogecoin Foundation director Timothy Stebbing emphasized maintaining a clean Layer 1 ledger while focusing utility on Layer 2.
In terms of market mechanisms, buyers are developers and testnet players looking to reuse solidity tools and reach the doge-holding community, while sellers are the execution environment and future mainnet gas scenarios sold by DogeOS. The event-driven nature is clear: once the public testnet opens, applications transition from private testing to deployable objects. Funds have already entered the infrastructure from the 2025 seed round, and if the mainnet uses real doge for payments, the beneficiaries will be wallet entry points and application transaction fees, while the pressures will be the lack of Layer 1 miner validation, trust assumptions of permissioned sequencers, and the speculative heat after doge's price has dropped about 60% over the past year.

Jordan Jefferson's team first developed the MyDoge wallet and then directed the same batch of users into the application layer. The approach is similar to Coinbase's Base and Consensys's Linea: first capturing asset entry, then laying out an EVM execution environment, avoiding changes to Layer 1 consensus. Polychain invested $6.9 million in May 2025 at an estimated valuation of about $40 million, betting on the old narrative of 'payment coins supplementing smart contracts', rather than launching another meme chain. The Dogecoin Foundation endorses 'pure Layer 1, utility on Layer 2', which gives political permission to rollups but does not mean miners have accepted OP_CHECKZKP.
Capital movement is focused on three areas: seed round buying engineering time, testnet using worthless doge and points for interaction, and the mainnet then collecting real doge for gas. The motivation is to convert the idle balances of holders who do not trade, lend, or play games into fees and locked assets above Layer 1. Resource delivery is very specific—Derps plans to embed perpetual contracts with a maximum of about 69 times leverage into MyDoge, USDoge will use doge as collateral to mint stablecoins, and launchpads will replicate meme factories on Solana. Money has not yet formed mainnet TVL, but developer default RPC has been established.
Comparisons should be made with Stacks adding contracts to Bitcoin, Liquid adding issuance to Bitcoin, and Merlin and Bitlayer competing for BTC DeFi. Dogecoin is in the very early stages of transitioning from a payment meme to a programmable ecosystem, with the testnet expanding while the mainnet is not yet ready for control. Historical parallels include Counterparty around 2014 and Omni in 2017, both attempting to add applications to non-contract chains, ultimately seeing liquidity return to Ethereum; successful examples are closer to Polygon's use of EVM compatibility to attract Ethereum applications rather than launching a new virtual machine.
Structural judgment belongs to technical substitution. The mechanism is: Layer 1's throughput and scripting capabilities are insufficient to support DEX, lending, and gaming, and they do not want to hard fork to change consensus, so they use zk proofs and permissioned sequencers to execute off-chain and record on-chain. Before miners truly verify proofs, the substitute is developer experience, not trust models; whoever becomes the default EVM for doge will preemptively capture the gas and bridge fees for subsequent applications.
