Uniswap Launches v4 Permissioned Pools to Support Compliant Asset Trading

Uniswap has launched Permissioned Pools in v4, an open-source standard that supports trading regulated assets on automated market makers.

Compliance rules are enforced through on-chain hooks, with issuers controlling the whitelist, allowing only approved addresses to swap or provide liquidity.

This move brings traditional financial compliant assets into DeFi liquidity, driving institutional funds into permissioned pools, while pure permissionless pools and non-compliant assets face pressure, benefiting compliant tokenized assets.

Since v1, Uniswap has adhered to permissionless automated market making, and v4 systematically supports permissioned pools for the first time after introducing the hook architecture, collaborating early with Superstate, Securitize, and others to connect tokenized funds with securities paths.

On the capital path, through on-chain whitelists and non-transferable NFTs to prevent circumvention, the issuer's control is deeply integrated with AMM, attracting BlackRock BUIDL-type assets, motivated by capturing the projected $11 trillion tokenized market by 2030, while keeping the core protocol open.

Similar cases can be seen in Aave's early institutional pool, Compound's permissioned version, and Coinbase Verified Pools based on v4; currently, DeFi is transitioning from purely decentralized to a parallel structure of compliance.

This essentially represents a restructuring of the industry chain: the compliance layer moves from the front end or off-chain to pool-level smart contracts, with mechanisms that embed regulatory requirements through hooks without disrupting interoperability, lowering the entry barrier for institutions and redistributing liquidity pricing power.
