Abu Dhabi Sovereign Wealth Fund Mubadala Partners with Coinbase to Launch Tokenized Private Equity Fund
Abu Dhabi Sovereign Wealth Fund Mubadala Capital has partnered with Coinbase and KAIO to launch a blockchain-native version of its long-term private equity fund, which will be offered as a compliant token to qualified investors.
Coinbase will operate the token on the Base chain and purchase it to include on its balance sheet, marking the first instance of a U.S. publicly listed company managing treasury on a native chain with regulated tokenized assets.
This collaboration is driven by RWA tokenization events, directing funds towards compliant token infrastructure and the Base ecosystem, benefiting tokenized private products while putting pressure on traditional private equity entry barriers.

ABAB AI Insight
Mubadala, as the asset management platform of the Abu Dhabi Sovereign Fund, manages approximately $430 billion in assets and has previously explored alternative investments and digital asset layouts. This time, it leverages KAIO infrastructure to achieve the on-chain version of evergreen private equity funds.
The capital pathway reflects a direct connection between sovereign capital and U.S. listed crypto companies, motivated by the desire to expand the reach to qualified investors through multi-chain distribution (Base, Solana, Sui), while allowing Coinbase to validate the feasibility of on-chain treasury management.
Compared to the tokenization pilots by traditional asset managers like BlackRock, as well as previous progress in stablecoin and treasury tokenization, we are currently witnessing the formal entry of sovereign wealth funds into regulated private tokenization.
This essentially represents a reconstruction of the industry chain, with the mechanism being that blockchain reduces friction in the circulation of private equity funds, allowing sovereign capital to connect with public market balance sheets for the first time.
