Untangle Uses Agent Collaboration Screen Recording to Replace LeetCode Hiring

Ryan Carson shared Untangle's new process for hiring engineers: the first round requires candidates to submit a 45-minute unedited screen recording, collaborating with an Agent to complete new features in their real projects.

The second round goes directly into the company's real codebase, where candidates must deliver a feature that is PR-ready within 16 hours, for which the company pays. The entire process does not require prior meetings and resumes are not reviewed.

The focus is on problem decomposition, collaboration with the Agent, result judgment ability, and final delivery capability. Carson believes this will become the standard for hiring technical talent in the Agent era.

In terms of market mechanisms, hiring shifts from algorithm questions to real collaboration and paid delivery, with funds flowing to candidates' actual work. The beneficiaries are engineers who can efficiently collaborate with Agents, while those under pressure are traditional LeetCode-oriented candidates.

Supplementary data shows that the second round uses DevinAI to provide secure access to the codebase and reviews all threads and Agent performance.

Ryan Carson, as a serial entrepreneur, extends his Agent-driven workflow to recruitment. The new process directly observes candidates' collaboration with Agents and delivery in real environments, rather than abstract algorithmic abilities.

On the capital path, the company filters talent through paid real tasks, motivated by reducing interview costs while obtaining assessable actual output. Candidates interact with Agents using their own projects, showcasing real work methods.

Similar cases can be seen where some startups replace traditional interviews with paid trial work. We are currently in a phase where hiring standards are shifting from algorithm problem-solving to Agent collaboration and delivery capabilities.

Structural judgment represents a technological replacement: LeetCode is replaced by real Agent collaboration screen recordings and paid PRs, with the mechanism being direct observation of the work process and results, making recruitment more aligned with the actual output needs of the Agent era.
