Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong: All asset classes are moving onchain

Coinbase co-founder and CEO Brian Armstrong posted on X on October 27, 2026, saying that all asset classes are moving onchain. He said tokenized stocks and stablecoins, which he described as tokenized fiat currency, are growing quickly, and that more assets will follow in the future.

Armstrong wrote in the post that they will continue updating the financial system. The post included a chart showing that the circulating supply of tokenized stocks has continued rising since the beginning of 2025, reaching a significant scale by around July 2026; the chart labeled total supply of tokenized stocks at $3.75 billion, with 1,501 tokenized stocks.

This statement continues Armstrong’s view that he has publicly expressed many times before. He posted in August 2025 that all asset classes and capital formation will eventually move onchain, and in 2026 he repeatedly emphasized that assets such as stocks, bonds and commodities would achieve instant settlement and global distribution through blockchain.

Since co-founding Coinbase in 2012, Brian Armstrong has long expanded the company’s positioning from a cryptocurrency trading platform to broader financial asset infrastructure. In December 2025, he announced the Coinbase Tokenize platform, aiming to provide institutions with end-to-end asset tokenization services; in July 2026, in a post related to earnings, he again emphasized that every asset on Earth (stocks, bonds, commodities, real estate, etc.) would move onchain. This October 27 post is consistent with his earlier statements and directly cites tokenized stock growth data.

On the business side, Coinbase uses its own Layer 2 network Base to support a large amount of onchain trading and stablecoin activity. In a July 2026 post, Armstrong said that more than 90% of agentic stablecoin transaction volume on Base came from stablecoin transactions, and that the scale of crypto assets held by the company and its position as a stablecoin platform support its tokenized distribution capability. The growth of tokenized stocks and stablecoins enables Coinbase to obtain new fee and liquidity entry points through custody, issuance and onchain settlement, in addition to traditional trading revenue.

Compared with the earlier stage when it focused only on Bitcoin trading, Coinbase has now expanded its product range to stocks, prediction markets, perpetual contracts and tokenized assets. Institutional clients such as BlackRock and Stripe use its custody services, while tokenized activity on Base provides a path to 24/7 settlement and fractional ownership that differs from traditional brokerages. This post did not announce a new product, but instead linked existing growth data with its long-term vision once again.

The specific judgment is that Armstrong reinforced Coinbase’s positioning as an infrastructure provider for updating the financial system by publicly highlighting the growth of tokenized stocks and stablecoins. When the total supply of tokenized stocks reaches $3.75 billion and covers 1,501 stocks, onchain assets are no longer limited to crypto-native trading, but begin to cover traditional equity products; this further extends Coinbase’s revenue sources from pure trade matching to asset issuance, custody and cross-chain liquidity organization. The points to watch next are the actual trading volume of tokenized stocks on Base and other networks, and the scale of institutional adoption.

  1. The growth in tokenized stock supply expands onchain assets from crypto-native assets to traditional equity products.

  2. The parallel growth of stablecoins and tokenized stocks gives exchanges entry points for settlement and custody beyond trading.

  3. The long-term claim that everything will go onchain is supported by realized supply and transaction data.
