1. The central figures here are Jeanie Buss and her father, Jerry Buss.

Jerry Hatten Buss was one of the most consequential owners in Los Angeles Lakers history. The most widely accepted date of birth is January 27, 1933, in Salt Lake City, Utah, although the Los Angeles Times notes that some older sources used 1934. He died in 2013. Jeanie Marie Buss was born September 26, 1961, in Santa Monica, California, and ultimately inherited the governance role her father had designed for her.

This is not a conventional story of a second-generation heir simply taking over a corporation. Jerry created his original fortune in real estate and entered professional sports through sophisticated asset swaps and financing. Jeanie grew up after her father had become wealthy, but she spent decades moving through tennis, roller hockey, arena management, ticketing, broadcasting and sponsorship before reaching the top of the Lakers.

2. The key to understanding the Buss family is that it developed a family-controlled sports-capital system, not merely ownership of one basketball team.

Its original components were tightly connected: real estate produced capital; professional teams became scarce assets; arena ownership captured live-event economics; television expanded distribution; and stars, celebrities and the Showtime culture created brand premiums. Jerry Buss was important because he understood unusually early that professional basketball was simultaneously competition, entertainment, media content, real estate-like inventory and status consumption. Former NBA commissioner David Stern later credited Buss with advancing the concept of the arena as a place for entertainment and for people to “see and be seen.”

Jeanie therefore inherited much more than equity. She inherited a philosophy of the Lakers as a Los Angeles cultural institution. Her comparative strengths have consistently been brand stewardship, governance, revenue operations, league relationships, partnerships and organizational control, rather than scouting or tactical basketball expertise.

3. As of August 18, 2026, the Buss family's 47-year connection to Lakers ownership may be approaching its final break, but the legal outcome is not yet settled.

In 2025, the Buss family sold the controlling interest in the Lakers to the Mark Walter-led ownership group at a $10 billion franchise valuation. The NBA Board of Governors approved the transaction on October 30, 2025, after which the Buss Family Trust retained roughly 17.8%.

In August 2026, Josh Kushner and Bob Iger reached an agreement with Walter to acquire his Lakers interests at a $12.5 billion valuation, another record for a U.S. professional sports franchise, subject to NBA approval. A majority of the Buss siblings then sought to sell the family's remaining 17.8% at the same valuation. On a simple headline valuation basis, 17.8% of $12.5 billion equals approximately $2.225 billion, although that is not the same as actual after-tax proceeds and should not be used as a proxy for any individual sibling's net worth.

Jeanie did not support that sale and has formally challenged it through counsel. Her attorney argues that co-trustees Jeanie, Janie and Joey must approve the relevant actions and that existing trust duties require preservation of Jeanie's control position. Other siblings contend that a tag-along provision in the prior transaction, combined with a majority vote of the six beneficiaries, permits the sale. ESPN reports that Jeanie was the only sibling not voting in favor and that she did not respond to the family vote.

Accordingly, it is not yet accurate to state definitively that “the Buss family has completely exited the Lakers.” The precise current position is that a majority of the siblings are seeking to sell the remaining 17.8%, Jeanie has raised a legal objection, NBA approval remains outstanding, and the final trust-law and governance outcome cannot yet be confirmed.

4. Jerry Buss grew up in circumstances almost opposite to the glamorous Showtime image later associated with him.

His parents, Lydus and Jessie Buss, divorced while he was an infant. Jessie supported the household as a waitress in Evanston, Wyoming, and Jerry later recalled standing in food lines during bitter Depression-era winters. They briefly moved to Southern California when he was nine, before returning to Wyoming after his mother remarried.

His stepfather Cecil Brown was a plumber and expected the children to work. Jerry dug ditches, worked as a hotel bellhop and, at age 13, ran a mail-order stamp business. He left high school early for railroad maintenance work but returned after roughly three months.

That experience helps explain a recurring combination in his later life: firsthand memory of scarcity, significant tolerance for financial risk, intense attachment to ownership and a willingness to enjoy wealth once he had created it. The factual background is documented; the connection to his later risk profile is an analytical inference based on his subsequent conduct.

5. His educational background was unusually rigorous for a future sports owner.

Jerry had not initially been a strong student. After returning to high school, encouragement from a science teacher helped him secure a scholarship to the University of Wyoming, where he earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry. USC then awarded him graduate support, and he completed a PhD in physical chemistry in 1957. Lakers employees consequently called him “Dr. Buss.”

There is insufficient evidence to argue that a specific scientific theory directly shaped his ownership philosophy. What is clear, however, is that his business behavior displayed strong quantitative and structural instincts. A classic example was his treatment of arena seating as differentiated real estate: premium location justified premium pricing, an idea Jeanie explicitly connected to his real-estate background.

6. Jerry's first professional career was in science, not real estate.

USC records describe government and aerospace chemistry work as well as chemistry teaching at USC. The Los Angeles Times reports that in 1958 he joined Douglas Aircraft, where he worked on rocket fuel and other classified projects.

He did not want to spend his career in aerospace, however. By the end of the 1950s he and colleague Frank Mariani were investing in property. Mariani would become one of the most important recurring partners in Jerry's life, from early wealth creation through the Lakers acquisition itself.

7. His real-estate business started small and relied heavily on leverage.

Buss and Mariani pooled a few thousand dollars and used multiple mortgages to acquire a 14-unit apartment building in West Los Angeles, personally performing repairs to save money. They continued acquiring properties; a roughly $12,000 racetrack windfall shared with relatives was also reinvested, and one property unexpectedly produced valuable oil royalties.

The larger business became a system of acquiring, financing, operating, swapping and refinancing real estate. That capability was directly relevant to the Lakers: Jerry did not win the 1979 acquisition by simply outbidding everyone with cash. He won by building a transaction structure that more liquid bidders had not designed.

8. The 1979 Lakers acquisition was the most consequential transaction of Jerry's life, and it is often described inaccurately.

The familiar statement that “Jerry Buss paid $67.5 million for the Lakers” is misleading. $67.5 million was the aggregate value of a multi-asset package. The Los Angeles Times reconstruction allocates approximately $33.5 million to the Forum, $16 million to the Lakers, $8 million to the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, and roughly $10 million to Jack Kent Cooke's California ranch.

Cooke's costly divorce created the opportunity. Buss courted him for more than a year and proposed a complex series of real-estate exchanges that would improve the transaction's tax characteristics. Cooke wanted the Chrysler Building; its owners did not want Buss's properties, forcing Jerry to assemble third-party buyers and a chain of swaps.

Near closing, Buss's group was about $3 million short. Frank Mariani arranged a loan from future Indiana Pacers owner Sam Nassi, while another $1 million came from Donald Sterling, who later owned the Clippers. The deal was therefore a product of real estate, leverage, partners and relationship capital rather than a single billionaire writing a check.

9. The transaction was historically powerful because Jerry acquired both content and the physical distribution environment.

The Lakers were the premium sports-content asset; the Kings supplied another major-league property; and the Forum gave him direct exposure to the live-event venue. That allowed games, concerts, premium seating, advertising, sponsorship and entertainment culture to reinforce one another.

His timing was extraordinary. Magic Johnson arrived in the NBA in 1979, Larry Bird emerged simultaneously, and Michael Jordan followed a few years later as the league entered a period of star-driven national television growth. Buss did not create those macro conditions, but he was unusually quick to commercialize them.

10. Jerry's defining innovation was converting basketball from a game into a full entertainment product.

Showtime was not merely Magic Johnson's fast break. Buss combined stars, pace, the Laker Girls, celebrity spectators, the Forum Club, theatrical presentation and Hollywood social status, turning attendance at a Lakers game into a form of Los Angeles identity consumption. David Stern later regarded this as an important contribution to the evolution of the league.

He also reconceived seat pricing. Rather than treating tickets as a small number of broad categories, he viewed courtside inventory like scarce beachfront real estate. This anticipated the premium-seating and experience-pricing economics that dominate modern sports venues.

11. Buss was also an early leader in arena naming rights.

The Forum became the Great Western Forum after naming rights were sold to Great Western bank. Lakers historical materials identify Buss as one of the early owners to recognize that the venue's name itself could be monetized as a commercial asset.

His recurring principle was straightforward: when large amounts of attention exist around something that is not separately monetized, that attention may itself be convertible into an asset.

12. Media distribution was another core part of Jerry's strategy.

He helped create Prime Ticket, expanding Lakers distribution on cable. Critically, he favored broad basic-cable access rather than restricting the product to a smaller premium-pay audience. The logic was to expand the fan base first and allow that reach to drive media economics, sponsorship, attendance and franchise value over time.

The resulting model can be understood as an attention flywheel: winning increased television demand; television enlarged star power; stars raised arena demand; celebrity culture increased prestige; and larger brand reach strengthened media, sponsorship and franchise economics. This is a synthesis of the documented business components.

13. Jerry's portfolio extended well beyond the Lakers.

At different times it included the Los Angeles Kings, Los Angeles Strings, Los Angeles Lazers, Los Angeles Blades and Los Angeles Sparks, among other sports interests. He eventually exited the Kings; in 1988 Bruce McNall acquired Buss's remaining 51% and became sole owner.

Smaller sports businesses served another purpose: they functioned as training platforms for Buss's children. Instead of immediately placing them at the top of the Lakers, he often gave them responsibility for smaller properties where they could learn ticket sales, promotions, personnel and operating economics with less risk to the flagship. Jeanie is the clearest example.

14. Jerry treated star talent as an investment, not merely as an expense.

The Lakers' own oral history repeatedly emphasizes his belief that a franchise should possess athletes whom people would pay specifically to see. He was willing to pay for elite players and coaches because competitive excellence itself increased the long-term value of the product. Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant and the Phil Jackson era collectively illustrate this model.

That mindset distinguished him from a purely financial owner seeking to maximize immediate cash yield. ESPN's family history reports that when Buss contemplated the idea of selling, his response was essentially that if he had the cash from a sale, he would probably want to buy the Lakers again.

15. The results were exceptional.

From 1979 until Buss's death in 2013, the Lakers reached the NBA Finals 16 times in 33 seasons, won 10 championships and missed the playoffs only twice. That places Buss among the most successful owners in NBA history.

He entered the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010 and received a Hollywood Walk of Fame star in 2006, reflecting the unusual degree to which his career spanned both professional sports and entertainment.

16. His scientific identity remained relevant even after he became wealthy.

Buss later donated $7.5 million to USC chemistry, supporting endowed faculty positions and graduate scholarships. His doctoral background therefore remained part of his institutional identity rather than merely a title used in sports.

17. Jerry's controversies should also be separated from the mythology surrounding him.

He developed a highly public playboy image that became part of the broader Showtime legend. That image is relevant to understanding his public persona, but it should not be used as a substitute for analysis of his business record.

In 1987, longtime companion Puppi Buss filed a major palimony suit seeking claims against interests that included the Lakers, Kings, Forum and real estate. The case was settled out of court in 1990, and the settlement terms were not disclosed. Consequently, claims about the ultimate payment cannot be confirmed.

In 2007, Buss was arrested in Carlsbad on suspicion of driving under the influence and subsequently pleaded guilty to misdemeanor drunken driving. This is a documented legal incident, not rumor.

18. Jeanie grew up in circumstances very different from her father: by her adulthood, Jerry was already wealthy.

The family structure, however, was complicated. Jerry and JoAnn Mueller's marriage ended, and the relationships among his children eventually became directly relevant to Lakers governance. Public accounts identify at least seven known children. The six who formed the core of the later Lakers trust structure were Johnny, Jim, Jeanie, Janie, Joey and Jesse. Another daughter, Lee, had been placed for adoption early in life and later reconnected with the family, but she was not part of the six-person Lakers trust control structure.

That distinction explains why some accounts refer to Jerry's seven children while Lakers trust reporting consistently refers to six Buss siblings.

19. Jeanie entered sports at a very young age, but not as a basketball decision-maker.

As a teenager she was exposed to World Team Tennis. While attending USC, her father placed her in charge of the Los Angeles Strings, making the franchise her first substantive test as a sports executive.

Jerry's development method was unusually practical: give a child a real business with real ticketing, staffing, fan and financial pressure, then see whether the child could operate it. Former Forum executive Claire Rothman described his philosophy as effectively throwing the children into the pool and seeing whether they could swim.

20. Jeanie's education aligned closely with her eventual responsibilities.

She is a 1985 graduate of the USC Marshall School of Business and later became a USC trustee.

Unlike her father's doctoral training in physical chemistry, hers was a business education, and her Lakers career concentrated on ticketing, revenue, sponsorship, broadcasting, arena operations and governance, rather than tactical basketball.

21. After the Strings, Jerry deliberately gave Jeanie harder and less glamorous businesses.

In the 1990s she ran the L.A. Blades roller-hockey operation. It was a far smaller product than the Lakers, drawing only a few thousand spectators even on stronger nights. The Los Angeles Times reported that some coaches regarded her as overly interventionist, while players remembered her generosity and support.

That was valuable preparation. She learned not only how an elite sports brand monetizes demand but also what it feels like to sell a product for which demand is weak.

22. Around 1995, she made her first major transition from event promoter to venue executive.

Jeanie became president of the Great Western Forum and an alternate governor representing the Lakers in NBA meetings. She later explained that as a promoter she had focused on selling tickets; as arena president, she had to persuade promoters to bring their events to her building.

That experience matters because professional sports economics extend beyond a team to scheduling, concerts, leasing, VIP business, sponsorship, media and partner management.

23. The Lakers' 1999 move to Staples Center was the point at which Jeanie entered the core Lakers business hierarchy.

After Jerry sold the Forum and the Lakers moved, Jeanie became Executive Vice President of Business Operations. In her own description, she oversaw the revenue-generating areas: ticket sales, broadcast and sponsorship.

Her professional identity is therefore best understood as a sports-business and governance executive. Jerry's succession structure envisioned Jeanie handling the business side while Jim Buss played a larger role on the basketball side.

24. After Jerry died in 2013, the central structural issue became the separation of economic ownership from control.

The family trust controlled roughly 66% of the Lakers, with the six Buss siblings sharing the family economic interest, while Jerry designated Jeanie as the Lakers' controlling owner/governor. She did not personally inherit the entire team; six siblings jointly inherited the family block while one sibling was given the principal governance role.

This arrangement solved immediate succession but embedded a long-term tension: the people sharing the economic interest were not identical to the person exercising operating control. Once family interests, emotions or strategies diverged, private family conflict became corporate-governance conflict.

25. The decisive turning point in Jeanie's career came in 2017.

On February 21, she removed brother Jim Buss from his basketball-operations role, dismissed longtime general manager Mitch Kupchak and installed Magic Johnson as head of basketball operations.

Days later, Johnny and Jim sought a board election with a proposed slate that did not include Jeanie. Because she needed a board position to remain controlling owner under the relevant structure, the move threatened her authority.

Jeanie went to court. Public trust documents showed that the co-trustees were required to take actions necessary to keep her as controlling owner. Her brothers ultimately backed down and signed documentation confirming her position, after which the trustee structure was reconfigured.

The episode transformed Jeanie from an heir designated by her father into an independently established power center who had successfully defended control through corporate and legal mechanisms.

26. The fight also revealed Jeanie's core management style.

Her public philosophy emphasizes loyalty, relationships and the idea of a “Lakers family.” Yet 2017 demonstrated that when she believes the franchise or her governance mandate is threatened, she will remove even close family members and use litigation to defend control.

That combination—relationship-driven management and highly centralized ultimate authority—is simultaneously one of her strengths and a frequent source of criticism.

27. The Magic Johnson era did not produce a stable long-term management structure.

Magic abruptly resigned in 2019, before fully informing Jeanie in advance. He publicly referred to internal backstabbing and said he did not want to be responsible for firing coach Luke Walton. Jeanie subsequently continued backing Rob Pelinka, who reported directly to her.

ESPN's reporting at the time focused heavily on blurred lines between formal executives, historic Lakers figures, trusted friends and informal advisers.

That became a persistent governance critique of Jeanie: she is highly effective at building loyalty networks, but critics argue that the “Lakers family” model can substitute personal trust for clearer, more institutionalized executive structures. This is a management critique, not an established legal finding of misconduct.

28. Jeanie nevertheless achieved the most important competitive validation in 2020.

With LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Rob Pelinka and the coaching staff forming the new competitive core, the Lakers won the 2020 NBA championship. Jeanie became the first woman to be the controlling owner of an NBA championship team.

That was decisive for her personal legitimacy. Before 2020, critics could argue that she was primarily protecting an inherited brand; a championship under her ultimate governance made that argument much harder to sustain.

29. The period after 2020 showed that the governance model had not become permanently stable.

The Russell Westbrook roster experiment failed, and the 2021-22 season was particularly disappointing. In 2022, Jeanie publicly acknowledged that performance was unacceptable while continuing to support Pelinka and seeking input from historic Lakers figures including Magic Johnson and Phil Jackson.

This reinforced competing interpretations. Supporters see durable culture and loyalty; critics see excessive dependence on friends, former Lakers figures and relationship networks rather than a more detached modern basketball-management structure.

30. She continued backing Pelinka rather than repeatedly changing basketball leadership.

That patience received renewed validation after Luka Dončić's arrival in 2025, after which Pelinka received an extension and increased basketball authority. The transaction itself should not be described simply as “Jeanie's trade”; her role was principally to select, empower and retain the executive who made basketball decisions.

That distinction is consistent with Jerry's model of ownership: the owner's job is not to scout every player personally, but to determine who gets authority and when patience or change is warranted.

31. Jeanie's independent projects demonstrate that she is not merely a Lakers heir.

The most important is WOW — Women of Wrestling. She is deeply involved alongside longtime partner David McLane as a co-owner/co-founder/promoter, with distribution support involving Paramount Global Content Distribution. WOW's own materials state that Jeanie was influenced by Billie Jean King's work changing women's professional sports.

As of August 2026, WOW remains active. Season Five is expanding its live format, with Jeanie taking a larger on-camera role. That makes WOW one of her most important continuing independent sports-entertainment assets as her Lakers ownership position becomes less certain.

32. She has increasingly converted the Buss/Lakers family story itself into intellectual property and media content.

She co-wrote the memoir Laker Girl with Steve Springer and later executive-produced Hulu's Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers, which won a Sports Emmy for Outstanding Documentary Series.

She also executive-produced Netflix's Running Point. Netflix states that Kate Hudson's character is partly inspired by Jeanie's experiences, while emphasizing that the series is not a biopic; Jeanie participated in developing the project.

The evolution is striking: Jerry turned basketball games into entertainment products; Jeanie has helped turn the experience of owning and operating the family sports empire into entertainment IP.

33. That ability to shape the family narrative is itself an influence asset, but it raises questions of independence.

Because Jeanie executive-produced projects such as Legacy, they function simultaneously as historical material and as an authorized Buss-family interpretation of its own history. Critics of athlete- and owner-produced sports documentaries have noted that such projects may have privileged internal access without being equivalent to independent investigative journalism.

For that reason, Buss-produced media is useful for understanding how Jeanie interprets her father and family, but governance disputes and contested responsibility should be cross-checked against independent reporting from sources such as the Los Angeles Times, ESPN and AP.

34. For decades, the Lakers equity became the overwhelming center of Buss family wealth.

Real estate created Jerry's original fortune, and the Forum, Kings and other sports businesses once mattered greatly. As those assets were sold or diminished in importance, however, the Lakers became the family's primary intergenerational store of value. The team was allocated roughly $16 million in the 1979 transaction; its controlling-interest transaction was priced at a $10 billion franchise valuation in 2025; and Walter's 2026 agreement with Kushner/Iger used a $12.5 billion valuation. These numbers are not perfectly comparable for calculating an investment return, but they demonstrate an enormous change in scarcity value.

The family's greatest wealth creation therefore came not from annual operating income alone, but from holding an extraordinarily scarce sports asset for decades.

35. Financial assets and influence assets should be distinguished.

Historically tradable assets included Lakers equity, the Forum, real estate, the Kings and other sports interests. Today the family's clearest remaining financial claim to the Lakers is the disputed 17.8% stake.

Influence assets include the Showtime mythology, Jerry Buss's owner legacy, relationships with historic Lakers figures, Hollywood networks, Jeanie's league reputation, WOW and the family's media/IP library. They cannot necessarily be priced like stock, but they can generate partnerships, content opportunities, prestige and commercial access.

36. The Buss empire was not originally built around a conventional external venture-capital structure.

Jerry's principal capital base was his and Frank Mariani's real-estate operation. The 1979 transaction added complex asset swaps, debt and relationship financing, including assistance from Sam Nassi and Donald Sterling.

The original model was therefore entrepreneurial family control plus a real-estate balance sheet and partner financing, rather than a private-equity fund raising institutional money to acquire a franchise.

37. The Lakers, however, were never owned 100% by the Buss family.

Important minority shareholders existed for decades. In 2010, Magic Johnson sold his Lakers interest to biotechnology and medical entrepreneur Patrick Soon-Shiong.

Even more consequential was the roughly 27% minority interest held by AEG/Philip Anschutz. In 2021, that block was acquired by Dodgers owners Mark Walter and Todd Boehly. This was a pivotal step because Walter entered the Lakers cap table years before becoming the buyer of the Buss family's controlling stake in 2025.

The 2025 transaction was therefore not a sudden takeover by an unknown outsider; a major existing minority owner became the controlling investor.

38. That progression mirrors a larger structural change in elite U.S. sports ownership.

Jerry represented the classic wealthy-family owner. Walter represents much deeper, multi-team, institutional-scale capital. The proposed 2026 Kushner/Iger combination adds venture-capital wealth and major media-entertainment experience.

This does not prove that family ownership is inherently uncompetitive. It does show that modern NBA franchises face increasingly large requirements involving payroll, facilities, media, technology, global commercialization and potentially real-estate development. Jeanie has framed the Walter transaction partly as a means of giving the Lakers access to greater long-term resources; that is her strategic justification, not the only independently established explanation for the sale.

39. Jerry's business model can be reduced to five interacting layers.

The first was capital appreciation through long-term ownership of the Lakers.

The second was live-event revenue, including tickets and premium seating.

The third was media distribution, beginning with innovations such as Prime Ticket and ultimately expanding into increasingly valuable Lakers media rights.

The fourth was sponsorship and naming rights.

The fifth was reinvestment in brand and competition: stars and championships created attention, attention created revenue, and revenue plus owner capital supported continued star power. Jeanie herself later identified ticket sales, broadcasting and sponsorship as the core revenue areas she supervised.

40. Jeanie added a sixth layer: personal and family intellectual property.

WOW is an independent sports-entertainment property; Laker Girl is publishing; Legacy is documentary IP; and Running Point transforms elements of her experience as a woman running a family sports franchise into scripted entertainment.

Consequently, Jeanie's commercial value cannot be measured solely by the number of Lakers shares she owns. Even if she ultimately loses the governor role, she retains decades of sports-operating history, the Buss name, the Lakers/Hollywood network, a pioneering identity as a woman in sports ownership and commercially usable story rights.

41. The family trust is the legal container at the center of the entire succession story.

After Jerry's death, the Buss Family Trust held the family's roughly 66% Lakers stake. Six siblings shared the economic interests while Jeanie was designated controlling owner. Public court documents in 2017 showed that the co-trustees had an obligation to take actions necessary to preserve her control position.

In its 2026 investigation, ESPN quoted Janie Buss describing aspects of Jerry's trust philosophy as resembling a last-survivor or tontine-like design, intended to prevent the ownership from fragmenting indefinitely into succeeding generations. Because the complete trust instrument is not public, however, the precise legal mechanics governing death, transfers, descendants and sales remain only partially available in public records.

42. The central weakness of Jerry's succession plan was that he appears to have overestimated the ability of common ownership to preserve family unity.

ESPN's interviews with relatives and Lakers insiders indicate that Jerry wanted his six children to enjoy generational wealth while the family continued controlling the team. He even discussed selling during his lifetime because he anticipated that the arrangement might produce infighting after his death; the children nevertheless indicated at the time that they wanted to keep the Lakers.

The opposite occurred. Ownership became an amplifier of family tension rather than a permanent glue. Johnny and Jim challenged Jeanie's control in 2017; later disputes emerged around executive jobs, proposed share sales and the eventual monetization of the family's stake.

In that sense, Jerry's most important failed project was not a sports franchise but the attempt to create a durable multigenerational family-governance system around the franchise.

43. The six Buss siblings occupied very different roles.

Johnny Buss worked in areas including corporate development; Jim led basketball operations for a period; Jeanie led the business side and later became governor; Janie worked in charitable services; Joey and Jesse developed careers in basketball research, scouting and operational roles.

Joey and Jesse were credited in reporting with involvement in the development or discovery of players such as Kyle Kuzma and Austin Reaves. After Walter's takeover was completed in 2025, however, both were dismissed from Lakers positions, sharply reducing the family's internal operating presence.
