1. The first point to clarify is that IQ.wiki was not a new company suddenly created in 2022. It is essentially the continuation, restructuring, and vertical specialization of Everipedia.

IQ.wiki’s official history traces the project back to December 2014, when Sam Kazemian and Swedish entrepreneur Theodor Forselius began Everipedia while Kazemian was at UCLA. The original ambition was to create a more modern and inclusive alternative to Wikipedia, with fewer restrictions around what people and subjects could receive entries. Travis Moore joined in 2015 as a co-founder and the first CTO. In 2022, the Everipedia encyclopedia was officially renamed IQ.wiki, while Brainfund was established as a higher-level corporate platform for IQ.wiki and other initiatives.

There is, however, historical ambiguity over exactly who should be described as a “founder.” The current corporate narrative emphasizes Sam Kazemian, Theodor Forselius, and Travis Moore. Historical reporting, Frax’s own documentation, and outlets including TechCrunch have also consistently described Mahbod Moghadam as an Everipedia co-founder. Some earlier records give still broader descriptions of the early team. The most accurate interpretation is therefore a founding team formed in stages: Sam and Theodor were the original initiators; Travis was the very early technical co-founder; and Mahbod was an important early co-founder on the content, community, and branding side. The precise legal definition of founder status and the original equity allocation are publicly limited / inconsistently reported / cannot currently be confirmed.

This distinction matters because IQ.wiki was not the creation of a single personality. It emerged from the combination of several different capabilities: Theodor’s internet-product and organizational skills, Sam’s crypto-economic and protocol thinking, Travis’s engineering background, and Mahbod’s experience building internet content communities at Genius.

2. Theodor Forselius is the founder most closely associated with the long-term corporate continuity of IQ.wiki.

Theodor Mauritz Forselius was born on March 23, 1995, and comes from Jönköping, Sweden. Swedish newspaper Dagens Industri reported that he left the conventional high-school track early to become a web entrepreneur. His official biography says he began operating gaming servers and online communities involving Battlefield, Call of Duty, and Minecraft at roughly age eleven, eventually building a broader gaming social network and entering the Swedish IT industry as a teenager. Some of these childhood details come from project-affiliated biographies and should therefore be treated as self-reported background.

Reliable public information about his parents’ occupations, family wealth, or exact socioeconomic class is limited, so it would be inappropriate to infer that background. What can be established is that he entered computing, server administration, online communities, and web products unusually early, rather than following a conventional university-to-corporation-to-startup trajectory.

His educational path is therefore particularly relevant: he built credibility through operating internet products rather than elite academic credentials. Swedish coverage in 2018 still framed his biography around the story of dropping out of school, becoming a web entrepreneur, and then going to the United States to build a company.

That helps explain why Theodor eventually became the natural CEO-type figure within the founding group. Brainfund still identifies him as CEO & Co-Founder, responsible for overall vision and strategic goals. As Sam and Travis increasingly became publicly associated with Frax, Theodor remained the clearest management link across the Everipedia → IQ.wiki → Brainfund corporate continuum.

3. Sam Kazemian was the founder who most clearly helped pull Everipedia into crypto economics and later became one of the team’s most influential figures in the broader industry.

Sam Hamidi-Kazemian was born on February 12, 1993 and is an Iranian-American software programmer. IQ.wiki’s biography says he was born in Tehran and moved to the United States as a child. He attended UCLA and completed degrees in Neuroscience and Philosophy in 2015. His public LinkedIn profile likewise lists a BA in Philosophy and a BS in Neuroscience from UCLA.

His background is commonly described as that of a first-generation immigrant from an Iranian family. Reliable public details about his parents’ professions, wealth, or family assets are insufficient, so his entrepreneurial story should not be characterized as family-capital-driven without evidence.

While at UCLA, Kazemian was already involved with Bitcoin and altcoin mining. He later recalled that around 2013–2014 he taught himself programming and crypto technologies while studying neuroscience and philosophy. That matters because Everipedia was not originally a crypto startup, yet blockchain knowledge already existed inside the founding team before the company’s 2017–2018 crypto pivot.

Sam and Theodor developed Everipedia’s earliest MVP in the UCLA dorm environment. In explaining the original motivation, Sam contrasted the aging user experience of Wikipedia/Wikia with newer crowd-knowledge platforms such as Rap Genius, Quora, and Stack Overflow. The first problem they were trying to solve was therefore not “blockchain knowledge.” It was a product question: why could a general-purpose wiki not feel more like a modern social and user-generated-content platform?

His later career produced another important branch. In 2019, Sam began developing Frax, eventually shifting much of his professional focus toward stablecoins, DeFi, and on-chain finance. Frax’s own documentation still treats the shared Everipedia experience of Sam, Travis, Theodor, and Mahbod as part of the founding network’s prehistory. Everipedia was therefore not merely one isolated startup; it also became an early talent and relationship incubator for the later Frax network.

4. Travis Moore was the technical co-founder and the most direct engineering bridge between Everipedia and Frax.

Travis Moore is from Thousand Oaks, California and is described by project sources as an Italian-American programmer, entrepreneur, and angel investor. He graduated from UCLA in 2011, with Brainfund/IQ.wiki materials associating his education with Neuroscience, Molecular Biology or Molecular, Cell & Developmental Biology, and Biochemistry. In 2015 he joined Sam and Theodor as an Everipedia co-founder and served in a CTO-type technical role.

Moore later co-founded Frax with Sam and became one of its principal technical leaders. This continuity is important: Everipedia’s blockchain transition was not simply executed by a crypto team hired from outside. A new protocol-building branch emerged from the original technical founding network itself.

His value to the IQ.wiki story therefore extends beyond having been an early CTO. He represents a bridge from first-generation Web2 knowledge-platform engineering, to tokenized knowledge infrastructure, and eventually to DeFi protocol engineering.

5. Mahbod Moghadam was the most unusual and controversial member of the founding group.

Mahbod Moghadam was born on November 17, 1982, and grew up in Encino, California, in an Iranian Jewish immigrant family. He graduated from Yale, studying History and International Studies, received a Fulbright fellowship to France, and later attended Stanford Law School, receiving his JD in 2008.

He initially followed an elite legal-career path and worked at Dewey & LeBoeuf, but his major internet reputation came from co-founding Rap Genius, later Genius, in 2009 with Tom Lehman and Ilan Zechory. This made him the Everipedia founder with the deepest prior experience in the combination of content, user contributions, community culture, and search-driven internet growth.

After leaving Genius in 2014, Moghadam joined Everipedia in 2015 and was widely described as a co-founder and Chief Community Officer. His contribution was less about core protocol engineering and more about an aggressive philosophy of internet content: if information could be sourced and people wanted to read it, the platform should be more willing than a traditional encyclopedia to cover internet personalities, culture, and emerging events.

His public persona also brought clear reputational baggage. He had previously been forced out of Genius following highly offensive comments related to the 2014 Santa Barbara killings and was repeatedly characterized by technology media as both creative and highly controversial. TechCrunch’s obituary explicitly described him as a controversial entrepreneur.

Moghadam left Everipedia in 2019 and later participated in additional startup and investment activity, including time around Mucker Capital. He died in March 2024 at age 41 from complications associated with a recurring brain tumor.

6. What made this founding team unusual was that “internet encyclopedia” was never its only intellectual reference point.

Sam and Theodor were interested in Wikipedia, but they were also influenced by newer user-content platforms including Quora, Stack Overflow, and Rap Genius/Genius. Theodor later said the team appreciated Wikipedia’s editing, citations, discussion mechanisms, and community standards while believing that its interface, participation model, and inclusion rules could be modernized.

The original Everipedia product philosophy can therefore be summarized as Wikipedia’s knowledge structure + social internet participation + SEO and real-time internet culture. A fourth layer was later added: token incentives. By 2024–2026 a fifth layer had become increasingly important: AI agents. The interaction of those five layers explains the product that IQ.wiki has become.

7. Looking at the founders’ later careers, Everipedia is best understood as the starting point of an entrepreneurial network rather than the final destination of every founder.

Theodor remained inside the Brainfund structure as its CEO and organizational strategist. Sam and Travis shifted much of their public professional identity toward Frax and DeFi. Mahbod left in 2019 and died in 2024. Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger, who is sometimes mistakenly treated as an Everipedia founder, was actually recruited in 2017 as CIO and was not part of the original founding team.

Sanger’s arrival was nevertheless enormously symbolic: a Wikipedia co-founder joining a competitor instantly transformed Everipedia from an ordinary UCLA startup into a global “Wikipedia challenger” story. Sanger announced his departure on October 18, 2019, and public accounts say he returned his equity before turning to the Knowledge Standards Foundation and his vision for a decentralized “Encyclosphere.” There is no reliable evidence that his departure was a public commercial rupture, so it would be inappropriate to invent such a conflict.

From Everipedia to IQ.wiki — Product, Capital, Assets, and Business Model

8. From 2014 through 2016, Everipedia was not a “blockchain encyclopedia.” It was fundamentally a Web2 content startup.

Born in the UCLA environment, Everipedia originally aimed to be an “encyclopedia of everything.” To scale rapidly, it adopted looser inclusion standards than Wikipedia and imported a substantial body of existing Wikipedia content. That strategy became both a powerful growth mechanism and one of the longest-running sources of criticism.

Its 2016 Wefunder campaign provides one of the clearest snapshots of the early business model. Everipedia told prospective investors that it had roughly 1.8 million monthly unique visitors and 3.5 million pages, and that banner advertising was already generating about $150–$300 per day. The campaign ultimately raised $129,878 from 201 investors. These were company disclosures on a crowdfunding page rather than audited financial statements.

The early model was consequently quite conventional: increase page inventory → capture search traffic → monetize through advertising → use growth to raise more capital. That is far removed from the DAO-, AI-, and token-focused positioning of IQ.wiki today.

9. One of Everipedia’s most important early resource networks was Mucker Capital, rather than a traditional media conglomerate.

Mucker Capital later explicitly described Everipedia as a portfolio company. Mucker focuses on pre-seed, seed, and Series A internet and software startups, meaning Everipedia’s early institutional network was rooted primarily in Los Angeles technology entrepreneurship rather than traditional publishing or encyclopedia businesses.

This also increased the value of Mahbod’s background: he brought not only Genius-style content-platform experience but also connections and visibility within a more mature internet-startup ecosystem.

10. The year 2017 was the company’s first destiny-changing pivot: from “a more modern Wikipedia” toward a “blockchain knowledge protocol.”

In December 2017, Everipedia announced plans to move its encyclopedia architecture onto blockchain infrastructure and recruited Larry Sanger. The fundamental economic idea was that whereas Wikipedia-style volunteer editors mainly contribute for reputation and public purpose, Everipedia could use the IQ token to make contributors economic stakeholders in the network.

The proposed model linked editorial contributions with token incentives and staking while presenting blockchain’s immutability and distributed operation as a form of censorship resistance. Wired emphasized the project’s aspiration to allow users in jurisdictions where Wikipedia was restricted to access and contribute to the system while receiving crypto-economic rewards.

This was the first structural transformation of the company: an encyclopedia website began turning into an experiment in knowledge plus token economics.

11. The $30 million financing in 2018 was the most important capital event in the project’s history.

On February 8, 2018, Reuters reported that the EOS.IO Ecosystem Fund, associated with Mike Novogratz’s Galaxy Digital and Block.one, led a group of institutional investors in placing $30 million into Everipedia. The ecosystem fund itself was a roughly $325 million Galaxy Digital–Block.one joint initiative.

Other disclosed strategic participants included DNA Fund / Distributed Network Advisors. Crucially, the $30 million was an equity deal at the company level, not an ICO through which Everipedia sold IQ tokens directly to the public. Business Insider explicitly described the financing as an equity transaction.

That distinction was strategically important. It allowed Everipedia to build a tokenized ecosystem and distribute IQ without making a retail token sale its sole initial capital-raising mechanism.

At the same time, the financing tied Everipedia closely to the EOS/Block.one/Galaxy ecosystem. In 2018 that relationship provided capital, liquidity, technical infrastructure, and industry visibility. Over the longer term, it also meant that Everipedia had to keep adapting as blockchain infrastructure and market narratives changed.

12. The IQ token gradually evolved from an editorial reward mechanism into a broader capital-coordination tool for the ecosystem.

IQ began as non-tradable contribution points. After the blockchain network launched in 2018, it became a transferable cryptoasset. Project documentation says a large share of the initial token supply was distributed through an airdrop to EOS holders, in part to create a broad community of token holders and participants.

The token subsequently grew beyond the function of “rewarding encyclopedia writers.” IQ became associated with governance, staking, ecosystem treasury management, liquidity, and eventually AI-agent infrastructure. Today BrainDAO uses the HiIQ locking mechanism: IQ holders can lock tokens for voting weight, receive staking rewards, and participate in governance around the DAO treasury.

A critical distinction must be maintained: the market capitalization of IQ, the BrainDAO treasury, and the founders’ personal wealth are not the same thing. BrainDAO describes itself as the entity behind the IQ token and its shared treasury. DAO assets should not be attributed directly to Theodor, Sam, or Travis as personal assets.

13. In 2019–2020, Everipedia began demonstrating that blockchain information infrastructure beyond the encyclopedia itself might have greater strategic potential.

In 2019, Everipedia experimented with products including the prediction market PredIQt, while Sam simultaneously began developing Frax. This showed that the founding network was expanding from knowledge websites into wider crypto-protocol design.

The more consequential case was OraQles. During the 2020 U.S. election, the Associated Press worked with Everipedia and Chainlink-related infrastructure to publish AP election race calls through cryptographically signed oracle mechanisms onto blockchain networks. Reporting at the time described plans to record thousands of state and national race calls.

The symbolic importance exceeded any immediately visible revenue impact. Everipedia had demonstrated that its core technology might serve not merely as a way for people to “write encyclopedia articles on-chain,” but as infrastructure for signing, verifying, distributing, and immutably recording authoritative data.

14. The 2021–2022 restructuring was the second destiny-changing transformation: the company effectively abandoned its original ambition to challenge Wikipedia as a universal encyclopedia.

BrainDAO became central to the IQ token’s governance architecture, and in October 2022 the Everipedia encyclopedia was formally renamed IQ.wiki while Brainfund was created as the higher-level company. The official explanation was that the restructuring would allow IQ.wiki to concentrate on its own mission while giving the parent company’s broader initiatives more autonomy.

The product narrowed from an “encyclopedia of everything” into a blockchain and cryptocurrency encyclopedia, while IQ.wiki also expanded onto Polygon. The current website explicitly markets itself as the “World’s Largest Blockchain & Crypto Encyclopedia,” rather than a universal Wikipedia replacement. That “largest” wording is a company positioning claim; there is no universally accepted independent database of crypto encyclopedias against which the ranking can be rigorously verified.

Strategically, this represented a realistic acknowledgment that the original plan to defeat Wikipedia in general knowledge had not succeeded. Instead, the company chose to build around the crypto vertical, where it possessed the strongest combination of funding, tokens, people, and industry relationships.

15. From 2023 through 2026, AI became the third major pivot, with IQ.wiki increasingly positioning its content as a structured crypto-knowledge layer for AI agents.

AI is now deeply integrated into the editorial workflow. IQ.wiki’s current Community Guidelines state that the site is published by an internal editorial team, with outside users primarily submitting suggestions through the AI assistant SOPHIA, after which editors review the proposed changes. SOPHIA also serves as an AI curator/editor.

This differs significantly from the 2017 vision of a directly editable, tokenized, decentralized encyclopedia. The current product is more accurately described as a professional editorial team + AI + community suggestions + blockchain verification + token governance hybrid.

The IQ.wiki knowledge base is also integrated into AIDEN and other crypto-focused AI agents. SOPHIA itself has evolved into an AI agent connected to the broader Agent Tokenization Platform, or ATP. Project materials describe ATP as an architecture in which AI agents can have their own tokens and assets and can execute on-chain activity.

The more important question today is therefore no longer whether IQ.wiki can replace Wikipedia. It is whether a decade of accumulated crypto content can become structured knowledge infrastructure that AI agents can read, update, verify, and monetize. That interpretation is an inference from the direction of the current products.

16. The present-day organization must be separated into at least three layers, otherwise corporate assets, DAO assets, and founders’ personal assets are easily confused.

The first layer is Brainfund. Official material says Brainfund emerged from Everipedia’s 2022 restructuring and acts as the higher-level technology company for IQ.wiki and other former Everipedia entities, with an emphasis on education, fintech, and AI. Theodor serves as CEO, while Sam and Travis retain historical founder/board-level connections to the broader organization.

The second layer is IQ.wiki itself. Importantly, the Terms of Service revised in September 2025 explicitly state that the site is operated by Distributed Machines Inc. Its privacy policy names the same legal entity and provides a Nevada mailing address. Thus, the site’s legal operating entity and the Brainfund parent-company brand are not literally the same legal name. Their precise equity relationship and the entity in which individual intellectual-property assets are registered are publicly limited / cannot currently be confirmed.

The third layer is BrainDAO / the IQ token. BrainDAO describes itself as the entity behind IQ, managing the token, HiIQ staking, and the treasury. Those assets belong to the governance structure and should not simply be attributed to Brainfund or the founders personally.

Assets and influence assets that can reasonably be identified include the IQ.wiki brand and domain, software, article database, crypto knowledge graph, Polygon-based editorial records, IPFS-stored data, SOPHIA/AIDEN/ATP technology and ecosystem relationships, and the user, liquidity, and governance network created around IQ. Precise IP ownership, corporate valuation, and the founders’ current equity percentages are publicly limited / cannot currently be confirmed.

17. The evolution of the business model can be condensed into a clear sequence: traffic economics → venture capital → token economics → treasury economics → AI/DeFi infrastructure.

The original model was a conventional content business: build large page inventory, capture search traffic, and monetize with banner advertising. Wefunder’s disclosure of roughly $150–$300 per day in advertising revenue in 2016 is the clearest historical evidence of that phase.

The second phase was accelerated by venture and equity capital, most importantly the 2018 $30 million Galaxy/EOS ecosystem financing. Investors were no longer simply betting on content traffic; they were betting on “blockchain + decentralized knowledge” as infrastructure.

The third phase centered on IQ: contributor incentives, staking, governance, liquidity, and DAO treasury mechanisms turned readers and contributors into potential token holders, stakers, and governance participants.

The fourth phase merges token economics with AI-agent economics. Current designs propose that ATP and AI-agent services use IQ for fees, with part of those fees burned and part redistributed to stakers, while token emissions fund staking, AI contributors, the treasury, and ecosystem development.

However, reliable public data on IQ.wiki/Brainfund’s current annual revenue, advertising share, AI-service revenue, token-related income, profitability, and cash flow are limited / cannot currently be confirmed. Token market capitalization and DAO treasury value are not substitutes for an income statement, so neither the company’s annual earnings nor the founders’ personal income from it can be responsibly estimated.

Key Decisions, Achievements, Controversies, and Current Real-World Position

18. The first major successful decision was to search for growth outside Wikipedia’s strict “notability” boundaries—but that was also the source of one of Everipedia’s biggest early risks.

Everipedia allowed more internet personalities, emerging events, niche culture, and ordinary individuals to receive pages. From a web-growth perspective, this was highly effective because every long-tail page represented potential SEO inventory and another search entry point. The company accumulated millions of entries and considerable search traffic in the 2016–2018 period.

But the strategy weakened one of the traditional encyclopedia’s filters: not every person who suddenly becomes visible on the internet should immediately receive a permanent biographical entry. The privacy, mistaken-identity, and breaking-news misinformation problems that later emerged represented the opposite side of a strategy that prioritized speed and openness.

19. A second major decision was importing Wikipedia content directly. It made Everipedia large very quickly, but created its deepest long-term product weakness.

For much of its early history Everipedia possessed a huge number of pages, many originating from openly licensed Wikipedia content. Wired reported that the company seeded its database using Wikipedia and used automated processes to track changes.

That allowed Everipedia to claim millions of articles rapidly, but article count was not the same as original-content density or an equally large active-editor community. In 2022, Wikipedia editor and cryptocurrency critic Molly White criticized Everipedia as largely a “graveyard” of scraped Wikipedia content mixed with self-written biographies and crypto spam. That should be understood as White’s critical assessment, not an official or universally accepted industry conclusion.

Commercially the tactic was clever because it created vast search inventory at very low marginal cost. Strategically, however, it left a persistent question: if the core database originates largely from Wikipedia, why should a user not simply use Wikipedia?

20. The blockchain pivot was Everipedia’s most successful transformation of its financing narrative.

Before 2017, Everipedia was a growing content startup with no clear proof that it could displace Wikipedia. Adding blockchain, token incentives, and censorship resistance moved it directly into one of the hottest global investment narratives of the period and was followed by Larry Sanger’s high-profile arrival and the $30 million Galaxy/EOS financing.

The significance went far beyond a product feature. It redefined the company in capital markets: from an advertising-driven Wikipedia challenger into a decentralized knowledge protocol.

In retrospect, that pivot was likely one reason the project survived for more than a decade. The original universal-encyclopedia business did not defeat Wikipedia, but tokens, DAOs, DeFi, and AI continually supplied new strategic directions. This causal interpretation is an inference from the company’s public timeline rather than a disclosed management statement.

21. The 2022 decision to deliberately narrow the project to crypto may have been more important than continuing a direct fight with Wikipedia.

Instead of preserving the “encyclopedia of everything” identity, the company explicitly became a cryptocurrency vertical. That meant accepting a smaller addressable information market in exchange for higher relevance, a clearer audience, and more natural ties to IQ, Frax, BrainDAO, and the wider DeFi ecosystem.

Today its architecture revolves around People, Projects & Protocols, Organizations, Cryptoassets, Exchanges & Marketplaces, Events, and a Glossary rather than attempting to cover every subject in history, medicine, film, sports, and politics.

Strategically, this allowed IQ.wiki to redefine itself from a failed universal Wikipedia challenger into a still-operating specialist crypto knowledge infrastructure platform. Evaluating the company therefore requires separating its original objective from its current objective.

22. Its most representative achievements are not that it “beat Wikipedia,” but that it repeatedly survived and transformed across multiple technology cycles.

First, the project remained active from a 2014 Web2 UGC encyclopedia into 2026, surviving the ICO boom, the EOS cycle, DeFi, NFTs, and the rise of AI agents.

Second, it secured an unusually large $30 million institutional financing for an early encyclopedia startup and gained access to capital networks including Galaxy Digital, Block.one/EOS-related funding, and DNA Fund.

Third, it persuaded Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger to join. Although he later departed, the move materially increased the project’s early global visibility and credibility as a Wikipedia challenger.

Fourth, the 2020 AP election-call project provided real-world validation for Everipedia/OraQles infrastructure from a major global news organization, making it more consequential than a purely conceptual “blockchain encyclopedia” pitch.

Fifth, Everipedia ultimately generated a founder and product network larger than the encyclopedia itself: Sam and Travis moved into Frax, Theodor developed Brainfund, and the IQ ecosystem expanded into BrainDAO, SOPHIA, AIDEN, and ATP. Part of Everipedia’s durable legacy therefore resides in the people, protocols, and capital relationships it helped incubate, rather than in website traffic alone.

23. The most serious documented controversy concerns information quality: Everipedia sometimes moved too fast during breaking news and published serious errors.

In 2017, The Outline published an extended critique arguing that Everipedia frequently created pages around people involved in tragic breaking-news events in order to capture search interest, while sometimes associating innocent individuals with events before facts had been verified. The article focused in part on erroneous identity information surrounding the Las Vegas mass shooting.

Historical reporting also records identity errors associated with events such as United Express Flight 3411. The underlying issue is a structural tension between UGC encyclopedias and breaking news: encyclopedias should create durable, verified records, while real-time traffic economics reward being first.

Importantly, today’s IQ.wiki has substantially changed the institutional mechanism. Its current guidelines no longer describe an open wiki in which anyone directly publishes changes. Instead, an internal editorial team and SOPHIA maintain the platform, while outsiders submit suggestions for editorial review. It is reasonable to interpret this as, at least in part, an institutional response to earlier quality-control problems, although that final connection is an inference.

24. A second category of controversy is the tension between the project’s language of “decentralization” and its actual current governance.

In 2017, one of Everipedia’s central claims was that blockchain could make encyclopedia infrastructure more censorship-resistant and decentralized while turning editors into token stakeholders.

By 2026, however, official guidelines explicitly state that content is published and maintained by an internal editorial team. SOPHIA receives community suggestions, after which editors review them. The Terms of Service also identify a centralized operating company, Distributed Machines Inc.

It would therefore be inaccurate to describe current IQ.wiki as a “fully decentralized encyclopedia.” A more precise description is: content publication is substantially editorially centralized; editorial records and data verification use Polygon/IPFS; and IQ-token and treasury governance incorporate decentralized participation through BrainDAO and HiIQ. In other words, decentralization now exists more strongly at the governance, asset, and verification layers than at the raw content-production layer.

25. A third structural risk lies in the tokenomics itself: IQ’s value-capture mechanism has become increasingly complicated and increasingly dependent on the ecosystem producing genuine demand.

IQ’s emissions framework has been revised multiple times. IQIP-14 in 2022 introduced a halving-like approach; the 2024 AI/ATP strategy later altered the structure again, directing additional token emissions toward HiIQ stakers, AI contributors, the BrainDAO treasury, and the company responsible for developing the ecosystem.

The project’s long-term theory is that AI-agent and ATP usage will generate fees paid in IQ, with part burned and part returned to stakers, so growing demand and token burns could eventually counterbalance emissions.

But that remains an economic design and forward-looking expectation rather than a demonstrated outcome. If AI-agent usage, IQ-denominated payments, or broader ecosystem activity remain insufficient, continued emissions can create dilution pressure. 26. Mahbod Moghadam’s personal controversies should be separated from controversies attributable to IQ.wiki as a company.

Before joining Everipedia, Moghadam was already a controversial technology-industry personality because of his behavior and statements during the Genius period. His style brought attention and reinforced Everipedia’s anti-establishment, internet-native identity, but it also created reputational risk.

There is insufficient basis to attribute all of Moghadam’s individual controversies to Everipedia/IQ.wiki, and there is no evidence that current editorial policy reproduces his personal rhetorical style. On the contrary, the platform’s present guidelines emphasize objective tone, credible sourcing, and prohibitions on vandalism, spam, doxxing, and plagiarism.

27. Larry Sanger’s departure was another symbolically important turning point, but it should not be overinterpreted.

When he joined, Sanger’s principal asset was not capital or code but the extraordinary symbolic value of the phrase “Wikipedia co-founder joins Wikipedia rival.”

After leaving in 2019, he moved toward the more radical idea of an Encyclosphere—a protocol-level ecosystem connecting multiple encyclopedias rather than another centrally operated encyclopedia company. Public records indicate that he returned his Everipedia equity.

Organizationally, Theodor Forselius remains CEO of Brainfund, while Sam Kazemian and Travis Moore’s principal professional identities have shifted substantially toward Frax. IQ.wiki today is therefore not a startup that all original founders still operate together on a daily basis; it is an independently operating node left by the evolution of a broader founding network.

29. If one must identify the project’s single greatest success, it is not traffic and it is not any temporary rise in token price. It is the continuous reinvention of its identity.

In 2014, it was selling the idea of a “more modern Wikipedia.”

In 2016, it was selling “massive UGC page inventory + SEO traffic + advertising growth.”

In 2017–2018, it was selling “a decentralized encyclopedia + tokenized contributors.”
